Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position, but it fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While the main arguments regarding animal welfare and extinction are introduced, they are under-developed and lack sufficient supporting evidence. The points made, such as the claim that eating meat leads to species extinction or the assertion that people become less emotional toward animals, are presented as generalizations without robust logical links. To improve, you must expand your arguments with more detailed explanations and specific examples to meet the length requirement and provide a more comprehensive analysis of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. For example, the transition 'To explain it' is used somewhat awkwardly, and the connection between sentences within paragraphs is sometimes weak. While there is a logical progression from the introduction to the conclusion, the flow is occasionally interrupted by repetitive phrasing and limited linking words. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of cohesive devices (such as 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in contrast') more naturally to connect your ideas and improve the overall flow of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but remains quite basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'not good', 'eating purpose', and 'at higher level' lack the precision expected at higher bands. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'inhaling them' when referring to eating meat, which causes confusion. To improve, you should aim to use more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'ethical implications', 'biodiversity', or 'industrial farming'. Expanding your range of synonyms and focusing on accurate word choice will help you convey your arguments more effectively and professionally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'each animal have benefits'), article usage (e.g., 'at some extent'), and awkward phrasing (e.g., 'we don’t stop them to eat anything'). While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb forms, and proofreading for common errors like missing articles or incorrect prepositions.
