Student answer (Band 5.5)

Eating meat is quiet common in all the world. In this era, people consume more meat as compared to past few years. Some people believe eating animals is cruel, I am staunchly disagree with given statement. Let' s discuss both believes briefly in upcoming paragraphs.

On the one hand, some people think eating animals is cruel because taking someone' s lives is like killing them intentionally. Additionally, they change themselves to save animals by eating only vegetables, fruits, etc. Moreover, there are new terms also invented like vegan, vegetarion, eggtarion and so on.

On the other hand, some believe eating meat is alright because even some animals also eat other animals. There are three types of animals Harbivores, Carnivorus, and both. So eating meat does not only a crime by humans its also by animals like lion, tiger or sharks. Eating meat is also good because human can fulfill their vital nutrients by eating animals. Example; There are many big restaurants such as KFC and Mc Donalds also sell meat in their food.

I am strongly disagree with that statement that eating animals is cruel because I have faced some drawbacks of not eating meat because at some places they only sell meat and I couldn't find anything to eat when I was travelling from Picton to Christchurch.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you clearly state your position, the arguments are underdeveloped and lack depth. For instance, the point about animals eating other animals is a common argument, but it is not expanded upon effectively. The personal example regarding your travel experience is relevant but too brief to fully support your stance. To improve, you must expand your paragraphs with more detailed explanations and illustrative examples to ensure the topic is fully explored.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, and there is a basic attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand' and 'Moreover'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the logical progression is hindered by the brevity of the arguments. Some transitions feel forced, and the referencing is occasionally unclear. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear, unified focus that leads logically to the next.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. There are several spelling errors, such as 'vegetarion' and 'eggtarion', and some awkward phrasing like 'taking someone's lives'. While you attempt to use topic-specific terms like 'Herbivores' and 'Carnivorous', the spelling is inconsistent. To improve, focus on learning the correct spelling of key terms and try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations to express your ideas more naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'I am staunchly disagree' (should be 'I staunchly disagree') and 'eating meat does not only a crime' (should be 'is not only a crime'). Punctuation errors, such as the space in 'someone' s', also occur. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors suggests a need for more careful proofreading and a better grasp of verb forms and sentence construction.
