Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, the amount of meat consumption has increased. Some people argue growing animals with an aim for human survival is an act of cruelty. I partially agree with this statement. In my opinion, humans can live in this world with or without eating meat.
To begin with, meat consumption is not an action which pop-up recently. From the beginning of man-kind, people live by hunting animals and catching fishes from sea. Later thousands of years, they started to doing cultivation of crops. Till then, they were all non-vegetarians. This clearly shows why human beings depends more on meat as a source of food. Moreover, it explains how meat became an unavoidable thing in their life.
In addition, human beings are not completely vegetarians or a they have no attraction towards a specific food. They wish to explore all kinds of food items. Years back, people used to hunt all kinds of animals and it resulted in the extinction of many animal breeds. Also, the increased human population bring up a major issue of shortage of meat. In order to rectify this issue, the government decided to specially raise a few animals for humans to have and they promoted it by selling it for low prices and many countries brought strict rules for hunting animals. For instance, in Japan they increased to raise chicken, and pigs because the people in that country love to eat those meat. These actions helped to decrease in the number of other animal extinction.
In conclusion, raising animals for human consumption is partially cruelty, because animals also have the right to live. But, for human survival they need meat as a food. So, customizing a few animals would other animals for extinction and also it helps to control the balance of nature cycle.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by taking a partial stance. However, the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. While you provide a historical perspective on meat consumption, the argument regarding 'cruelty' is not fully explored or balanced against the counter-argument. The conclusion is slightly confusing, particularly the phrase 'customizing a few animals would other animals for extinction,' which lacks clarity and fails to effectively synthesize your position. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a single, well-supported argument that directly relates to the ethical dilemma posed in the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas from historical context to modern practices. You use some cohesive devices like 'To begin with,' 'Moreover,' and 'In addition' to link your points. However, some transitions are mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the final sentence which struggles to connect the ideas of 'customizing' and 'nature cycle.' Improving the flow between sentences and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer to their antecedents would enhance the overall coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning. You use some relevant terms like 'extinction,' 'cultivation,' and 'consumption.' However, there are instances of awkward word choices, such as 'pop-up recently' instead of 'emerged recently' or 'customizing' when you likely meant 'domesticating' or 'farming.' There is also some repetition of basic words. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and a wider range of academic vocabulary to express your ideas with greater sophistication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow, such as 'they started to doing cultivation,' 'human beings depends,' and 'the increased human population bring up.' Additionally, there are issues with article usage and verb tense consistency. While these errors do not completely prevent understanding, they are frequent enough to limit your score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining your use of complex sentence structures will help improve your accuracy.
