Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people argue that raising animals for human consumption is cruel so people should stop eating meat. Although I agree with the statement that raising animals for human consumption is cruel but I disagree that meat should be completely prohibited.
The major concern is intensive farming practices for productivity and profit while neglecting the welfare of animals hence raising them with cruelty. For example keeping them in overcrowded places where they can't even move properly makes them suffer unnecessarily .
However, non vegetarian meals provide a lot of nutrients such as iron and protein and provides a balanced diet for many people so meat should not be completely abandoned. For example ch Further, it maintains a proper balance in food chain as not having meat in diet can lead to disruption in food chain that effects the environment as well thus to maintain proper balance in food chain and to get sufficient nutrients raising animals for human consumption is important.
Further the consumption of meat should not be completely prohibited therefore there should be stricter rules for welfare of animals and some standards should be set such as setting a minimum space for number of animals. Government should impose penalty for businesses using intensive farming practicing and there should be regular audits of these businesses.
To conclude we can say that raising animals for human consumption with cruelty is wrong but we cannot completely stop eating meat thus setting standards for welfare of animals is a good thing we can pursue.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, maintaining a clear position throughout. You acknowledge the cruelty of intensive farming while arguing against a total ban on meat consumption, providing a balanced view. The ideas are relevant, such as the nutritional benefits of meat and the need for regulatory reform. However, some arguments are slightly under-developed; for instance, the claim that not eating meat disrupts the food chain is a broad assertion that lacks specific scientific or logical support. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting points are more thoroughly explained and grounded in clearer reasoning.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices like 'However', 'Further', and 'To conclude' to link ideas. However, the flow is occasionally hindered by mechanical phrasing and some awkward transitions. For example, the sentence 'For example ch Further, it maintains...' contains a fragmented start that disrupts the reading flow. Additionally, the use of punctuation is sometimes inconsistent, which affects the overall cohesion. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would help achieve a more professional and cohesive structure.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'intensive farming', 'nutrients', and 'prohibited'. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, but the usage is occasionally imprecise or repetitive. For example, you use the phrase 'raising animals for human consumption' multiple times, which could be varied with synonyms like 'livestock production' or 'animal husbandry'. While your meaning is always clear, the lexical range is somewhat limited, and there are minor errors in collocation, such as 'intensive farming practicing' instead of 'practices'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully convey your ideas, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with sentence construction and punctuation. For instance, the opening sentence contains a redundant 'although/but' structure, which is grammatically incorrect. There are also issues with subject-verb agreement and missing articles, such as 'effects the environment' (should be 'affects') and 'for welfare of animals' (should be 'for the welfare'). These errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score.
