IELTS Writing Task 2 question
People should never eat meat because raising animals for human consumption is cruel.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?Give reasons for your answer, and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is argued that people should not consume meat as it is a form of cruelty towards animals. I completely agree with this statement. This essay will discuss, firstly, the reason why people should not consume meat to save animals and secondly the idea behind others opinion.
At the outset the main reason why I agree with this statement is everyone have the right to live and enjoy their life. For example, If people are enjoying their life as per they want why animals do not deserve this freedom why they have to live in fear that someone will kill them because they want to eat them. Another reason is why people have to kill animals and eat them to fulfil their source of protein the diet. They can opt another protein rich foods instead of consuming animals flesh.
Furthermore, the next prominent factor strengthening this assertion is nowadays people are growing with the idea of killing animals and eating them gives them peace as they are fulfilled by consuming them and feels energetic. Apart from this, this trend has been followed now from a while ago and everyone is so comfortable for instance, people do not hesitate in taking someone's life for their own benefit.
In conclusion, I support the statement which says human beings do not kill and eat animals for their own eating habits and have no right at all to take someone's life and leave them to die and promotes such heartless activities in the world. Everyone has the right to live until god takes their life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention that animals have a right to live and suggest alternative protein sources, the arguments lack depth and specific supporting evidence. The second body paragraph is particularly unclear; it attempts to discuss why people eat meat but struggles to articulate the point effectively, leading to a somewhat confused argument. To improve, ensure that each paragraph focuses on a single, well-explained idea supported by a concrete example or a logical consequence, rather than listing general statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive. Phrases like 'At the outset' and 'Furthermore' are used, but the internal flow within paragraphs is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and run-on sentences. For instance, the transition between the idea of animal rights and the suggestion of alternative proteins is abrupt. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the logical progression of your argument. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each sentence builds logically on the previous one will enhance coherence.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band. You rely on basic terms such as 'enjoy their life', 'eat them', and 'someone's life'. There are also some awkward collocations, such as 'growing with the idea' and 'fulfilled by consuming them'. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'ethical considerations', 'nutritional requirements', or 'sentient beings'. Expanding your range of synonyms and focusing on natural collocations will significantly improve your lexical score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There is a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. You frequently make errors in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'everyone have the right', 'animals do not deserve') and punctuation. Many sentences are run-on or lack necessary commas, which makes them difficult to parse. For example, 'If people are enjoying their life as per they want why animals do not deserve this freedom why they have to live in fear...' is grammatically fragmented and lacks proper structure. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will help reduce these frequent errors.
