Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is argued that consuming meat by humans is cruel to the animals that are also raised by us. This essay strongly agree with this statement because there have been multiple options for us to fulfill our appetite and harming animals could not be one of them.

Firstly, we humans have developed a lot in this modern society and we do have bunch of other options to consume and sparing the animals. Some animals provide us with milk, wool, etc. which is essential for us to survive on this planet. Also, in some cultures people worship animals and they feed and nurture them for their own well-being. For instance, in India, people worship cows and keep them as a pet and never let anyone hurt them. On the other hand, in some countries people consume cow's meat and are not ashamed of it. This is total cruelty from the view point of people who worship cows.

Secondly, the percentage of humans consuming meat is gradually decreasing as they have now become aware about the fact that they do have other options that are more beneficial for their health. For instance, American athletes and actors are now turning themselves to vegan and consume food that is plant-based as they have realised the fact that harming animals for their apetite is pure cruel and will not benefit them at all. Such steps adopted by famous personalities do influence others to avoid consuming meat.

To conclude, humans should avoid consuming meat because raising them for human consumption is truly evil.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding cultural differences in animal treatment is interesting but lacks a clear link to the ethical debate about meat consumption itself. The second paragraph mentions athletes turning vegan, which is a relevant example, but the explanation of why this proves meat consumption is 'cruel' is underdeveloped. To reach a higher band, you should focus on expanding your reasoning rather than just listing examples, ensuring that every point directly supports your central thesis on the ethics of animal consumption.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'To conclude' to guide the reader. However, the transition between ideas within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical. For example, the shift from discussing cultural views on cows to the general decrease in meat consumption feels abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the use of 'they' in the second paragraph, which could refer to either humans or animals. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'nurture', 'consumption', and 'personality'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'bunch of other options' is too informal for an academic essay, and 'pure cruel' is grammatically incorrect (it should be 'purely cruel'). There are also minor errors like 'apetite' (spelling) and 'turning themselves to vegan' (should be 'turning vegan' or 'adopting a vegan diet'). Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise, academic collocations will help improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation. For instance, 'This essay strongly agree' should be 'agrees', and 'there have been multiple options' is slightly awkward in this context. You also have issues with article usage and pluralization, such as 'from the view point of people'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and refining your use of articles will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing.
