Student answer (Band 6.0)

People should never consume meat as raising the animals is considered cruel for human consumption. I agree with this statement as it is not a good practice to kill animals.

Nowadays, eating non vegetarian food is considered a trend. If you do not eat it, it is not considered cool. To elevate the levels of protein in a human body, nutritionists advice to eat meat but they are forgetting that meat in not the only source of protein. An individual can get protein from pulses as well. But humans are forgetting that animals are also living creatures and they also have a right to live like us. In some cultures, many animals are being worshipped. For instance, in India, many communities pray to the cows as it is considered a holy ritual. Their beliefs are that they do not kill anything they worship and instead raise them as their own.

Not only this, but also how would a human feel if they are being eaten by another humans for satisfying their hunger? The same feeling is being felt by animals as well. Mother Nature has created these animals and we human beings have no right to kill them. Instead, we should preserve them. There are multiple farms across the world which are used for providing food for the humans. These places should be shut down. For example, Maple foods have its headquarters in Toronto. These farms can save animals rather than kill them for processed food.

In a nutshell, to satisfy the hungriness, humans should eat the food which does not include killing of the animals like eating grains and not the eggs as it is considered an inhuman practice.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant arguments, such as the ethical treatment of animals and the availability of alternative protein sources. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat simplistic. For instance, the argument regarding 'Maple foods' is not clearly linked to the broader ethical debate, and the suggestion that all farms should be shut down is an over-generalisation that lacks nuance. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are more thoroughly explored with deeper reasoning rather than relying on emotional appeals or anecdotal examples. The conclusion is consistent with your stated position.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Nowadays', 'For instance', and 'In a nutshell', to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the transition between protein sources and religious beliefs feels abrupt. The logical progression is generally clear, but the connection between the ethical argument and the specific example of Toronto-based farms is weak, which disrupts the overall coherence of that paragraph.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'consumption', 'nutritionists', 'worshipped', and 'ritual'. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and awkward phrasing, such as 'elevate the levels of protein', 'satisfying their hunger', and 'hungriness'. These choices occasionally sound unnatural. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, there is a lack of more sophisticated or precise academic collocations that would be expected at a higher band level. Spelling is generally accurate throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'meat in not the only source', 'another humans', 'The same feeling is being felt', and 'Maple foods have its headquarters'. These errors are noticeable but do not generally impede communication. Punctuation is mostly correct, but the control over verb tenses and subject-verb agreement needs improvement to achieve a higher score. You should focus on proofreading to catch these small but frequent slips.
