People should never eat meat because raising animals for human consumption is cruel.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?Give reasons for your answer, and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is a fact that growing animals for humans to consume is a great act of cruelty and should not be eaten by people. I completely agree with the statement as it has a huge negative impact in this world.
To begin with, the main reason for human beings to avoid eating meat is to prevent disturbance in the natural ecosystem. To explain, when animals are raised and then killed to satisfy the hunger of the mankind it create imbalance in the natural food chain that exists in the environment. As a result, it could lead to trophic cascade, dramatic population changes, resource depletion. For example, hunting specific animals can lead to increase in numbers of its prey and decrease in number of its predator because of lack of food. This demonstrates that this act of consuming animal flesh will create a gap in the naturally existing food chain which will eventually lead to collapse in the eco system.
Moreover, another major factor is medical issues that can be caused by artificial animal rearing for the humans. To illustrate, when animal livestock is nurture with the use of artificial chemicals and them eaten by people it could give birth to various biological disorders and diseases in their bodies. As a result, human body catches dangerous medical problems which could also take away their lives and can also spread in the environment easily. This demonstrates flesh and meat consumption can become a great danger for human race.
In conclusion, I believe that livestock breeding can negatively affect human body as well as could lead to pure destruction of natural habitat of this world.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position in favor of the opinion. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you mention the ecosystem and health concerns, the arguments lack depth and specific, real-world examples. For instance, the discussion on 'trophic cascade' is a good concept, but it is not explained in a way that directly supports the ethical argument of cruelty mentioned in the prompt. To improve, ensure that your supporting points are more directly linked to the core issue of animal welfare and provide more concrete, illustrative examples rather than general statements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression of ideas. You use cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion' to signal the structure. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the discussion of the food chain and the conclusion is a bit abrupt. The referencing is generally clear, but ensure that pronouns and cohesive markers are used to connect ideas more fluidly rather than just acting as signposts for new paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'trophic cascade', 'resource depletion', and 'livestock breeding'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For example, 'growing animals' is not the standard collocation; 'rearing' or 'raising' is better. 'Give birth to various biological disorders' is also unnatural; 'lead to' or 'cause' would be more appropriate. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing like 'human beings' and 'human race'.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors. For instance, 'it create imbalance' should be 'it creates an imbalance', and 'when animal livestock is nurture' should be 'is nurtured'. There are also issues with article usage and pluralization, such as 'collapse in the eco system' (should be 'the ecosystem'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage.
