Student answer (Band 6.5)

In this contemporary era, consumption of non-vegetarian food is becoming prevalent as compared to past few decades. Some experts claim that raising animals for humans to eat is extremely cruel phenomenon, they should never consume the meat. This essay will elucidate, why humans should not eat meat and how it is affecting the animals along with my perspective that, I completely agree with this viewpoint.

To commence with, there are several reasons demonstrate that raising animals to fulfill the nutritional requirements is detrimental for animals that majorly affects the lifecycle of animals. For instance, a large number of population consumes meat for the sense of satisfaction, which demands the sacrifice of significant amount of animals. Additionally, to meet the demand of non-vegetarian products, poultry farming is prevalent in many places, they use numerous chemicals and injections to generate large amount of production that causes multiple diseases to animals and that is extremely painful method.

Further points to support the argument, raising animals for human consumption is not only detrimental for animals, but also affects the ecological balance by disturbing nature's cycle. To exemplify, many carnivores facing the struggle to find their food as humans are also eating their meal, which is misbalancing the food chain of animals. Hence, a significant number of animals are on the stage of extinction because they are not able to meet their nutritional requirement. In my opinion, there are tremendous amount of vegetarian food sources are available for humans, which are extremely beneficial for human's physical well-being. Therefore, people should stop consuming the meat and raising the animals just for their consumption.

To recapitulate, the high demand of non-vegetarian food by people, affecting the animals. Although consumption of animals provides the sense of satisfaction, it is deleterious for the ecology. Thus, I believe people should replace the meat consumption entirely by using the vegetarian alternatives, which also provide nutrtional requiremet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. The arguments regarding animal welfare and ecological balance are relevant and supported with examples, such as the mention of poultry farming and the disruption of the food chain. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the claim that carnivores are struggling because humans eat their food is scientifically questionable and lacks depth. To reach a higher band, ensure that arguments are more logically sound and fully explored. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points and reaffirms the writer's stance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'To commence with', 'Additionally', and 'To recapitulate' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the flow is interrupted by awkward phrasing, such as 'Further points to support the argument'. Referencing is generally clear, but the connection between sentences could be smoother to improve the overall progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body, and conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated language like 'contemporary era', 'prevalent', and 'deleterious'. However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'extremely cruel phenomenon' (missing article) and 'generate large amount of production'. Some phrasing is repetitive, and there are minor spelling errors like 'nutrtional requiremet'. While the range is sufficient to convey the message, more precise and natural vocabulary would be required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, they are often marred by grammatical errors, such as missing articles ('consumption of meat'), subject-verb agreement issues ('there are several reasons demonstrate'), and awkward punctuation. For example, the sentence 'In this contemporary era, consumption of non-vegetarian food is becoming prevalent as compared to past few decades' contains minor errors that slightly affect readability. Despite these errors, the meaning is generally clear, and the grammar does not impede communication.
