Student answer (Band 6.0)

Meat consumption has become the most debatable topic in recent years. It has been said that people should not be a non vegetarian since it is considered as animal cruelty. I agree with this statement to some extent as it provides wide range of nutritional benefits. The essay will examine the reasons associated with my point of view in the following paragraphs along with my opinion.

To begin with, meat consumption can have adverse impacts on human behaviours who loves animal. People who are non vegetarian can be seen as a cruel and brutal in the society which contributes to exclusiveness and sometimes they are mistreated by others. As a result, they feel extremely depressed and isolated. Moreover, animals also have a right to live in this shared environment. They are significantly more likely to contribute to the eco system. In order to maintain the environment cycle, living organism is required to be considered.

Apart from that meat has its own significance related to healthy lifestyle. It provides essential vitamins and nutrients to human body if it’s consumed wisely. For instance, people especially women are facing the challenging situation related to iron deficiency. Red meat is the most crucial source of iron.

In conclusion, i firmly believe that animal cruelty should be treated effectively. Government should impose stringent rules and standards for that specific matter. Although people are more aware of what has to be done with this issue, there are various kinds of people who actually take it for their survival.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt but lacks a clear, consistent position. While you state you agree 'to some extent', the body paragraphs present conflicting arguments: one focuses on the social stigma of meat-eating, while the other defends meat consumption for health reasons. This makes the overall stance confusing. To improve, ensure your position is clearly stated in the introduction and consistently supported throughout the essay. The ideas are relevant but remain somewhat superficial; for instance, the claim that meat-eaters are 'mistreated' is an over-generalisation that lacks logical support. Developing your arguments with more specific examples or deeper analysis would help reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, which is a strength. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'To begin with' and 'Apart from that'. The progression of ideas is occasionally disjointed; for example, the transition between the social impact of eating meat and the environmental argument in the second paragraph is abrupt. Additionally, some referencing is unclear, such as 'that specific matter' in the conclusion, which does not clearly link back to the previous points. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences will enhance the flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to communicate your ideas, but there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors. For example, 'non vegetarian' is used as a noun, whereas 'non-vegetarian' is typically an adjective. Phrases like 'exclusiveness' and 'environment cycle' are not the most natural choices in this context. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'nutritional benefits' and 'iron deficiency', the overall control is limited. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and using more precise terminology to convey your meaning more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Issues include subject-verb agreement ('human behaviours who loves animal'), article usage ('the eco system'), and awkward phrasing ('living organism is required to be considered'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but the lack of capitalisation for 'i' in the conclusion is a minor error. While the meaning is usually clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and refining complex sentence construction will be beneficial.
