Student answer (Band 5.5)
Some believe that it is raising animals for slaughter is inhumane and people should not eat meat. However, I disagree with the forementioned statement. This essay will discuss the reasons and examples supporting my opinion.
Throughtout human history, People have always been relied on animals for food due to the climate changes. Such as during Ice-age, early humans were hunting mammoths and other animals for food, animal skins to withstand harsh wintery conditions. Animal meat provides all the essential vitamins, minerals and essential amino acids that cannot be obtained from the plant based diet. If early humans relied on plants during that time, human race would have been wiped out on face of the earth a long time ago.
Besides being rich in amino acids and vitamins, Scientists found that meat consumption lead significant brain development in early humans. Thus creating the early Civilisation. Although, in Modern times people are not living like their ancestors were, Emphasizing on people to never eat animals in the name of animal crueality is inappropriate. Rather than ask people to quit entirely, the focus should be on not killing animals for designer products. For example, killing alligators for their skin to make purses and leather belts should be more highlighted since its upsetting the natural balance of predator and prey. This leads to growing population of herbivores since their natural predators are dwindling in numbers.
Overall, Eating animals is essential part of our natural diet since the dawn of humanity. Others issues however needs to be focused than animal cruality

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The essay addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against the idea that meat consumption should be banned. You provide historical and biological arguments to support your view. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The argument regarding 'designer products' and alligators is a bit tangential to the core issue of human consumption for nutrition, which weakens the focus. To reach a higher band, ensure that every paragraph directly supports your main thesis without drifting into secondary topics like the fashion industry. The conclusion is also quite brief and introduces a new, slightly vague point about 'other issues' rather than summarizing your main arguments effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas from historical necessity to modern-day context. You use some cohesive devices like 'However', 'Thus', and 'For example' to link ideas. However, the use of referencing is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. For instance, the jump from brain development to the fashion industry in the third paragraph lacks a smooth logical bridge. Additionally, there are minor issues with punctuation and sentence structure that occasionally disrupt the flow of reading. Improving the variety of linking words would help the text feel more cohesive.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'slaughter', 'inhumane', 'essential amino acids', and 'civilisation'. There are some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'forementioned' (should be 'aforementioned'), 'natural balance of predator and prey' (which is slightly misused in this context), and 'Others issues however needs to be focused'. While these errors do not impede communication, they show a lack of precision. To improve, focus on using more sophisticated academic collocations and ensure that your word forms are accurate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include: 'it is raising animals for slaughter is' (double subject), 'People have always been relied on' (passive voice error), 'If early humans relied on plants... human race would have been' (conditional error), and 'Others issues however needs' (subject-verb agreement). While the meaning remains clear, these errors are frequent enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and correct verb tense usage.
