Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by expressing a clear position of total agreement that consuming meat is cruel. The writer provides three main arguments: emotional bonds with animals, religious beliefs from a Buddhist perspective, and the availability of nutritional plant-based alternatives. However, the development of these ideas remains somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the reference to consuming milk in the introduction is slightly off-track since the prompt specifically focuses on raising animals for meat consumption. Furthermore, some of the assertions, such as claiming that tomatoes or eggs have more protein than meat, lack factual accuracy and depth of support. While the position is maintained throughout, the ideas require further extension, specific real-world examples, and tighter focus to achieve a higher band score.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into five paragraphs, including a brief introduction and conclusion, which provides a basic structural framework. Ideas are organised around distinct themes in each body paragraph, such as emotional attachment and religious perspectives. However, the logical progression is frequently disrupted by mechanical and faulty cohesive devices, as seen with abrupt transitions like 'The third reason is there are varieties...' and 'So lastly, i woild like to say...'. Referencing is also occasionally unclear, and paragraphing is rather simplistic. There is an overall lack of sophisticated linking words to smoothly guide the reader through the argumentation, placing this response firmly in the middle band for cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The lexical resource displayed is generally basic and repetitive, utilizing common words such as 'cruel', 'meat', 'animals', and 'family' throughout the text. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'consumption', 'slaughtered', and 'nutritional alternatives', but these attempts are frequently marred by spelling and word-choice errors, including 'consinderd', 'innoscent', 'vegrtable', and 'minirals'. Furthermore, collocations are sometimes unnatural, as seen in 'consumin g meat is consired as one of the most cruel deed on earth'. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the core message, the high frequency of spelling mistakes and limited lexical flexibility prevent the essay from reaching a higher descriptor level.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting relative clauses and conditional structures such as 'if you have raised your cattle and sombody stole it... How would react to this'. However, grammatical control is weak, with frequent errors in punctuation, subject-verb agreement, articles, and tense consistency. Examples of errors include 'consuming meat is widely increasing' instead of 'growing', 'all the animals ahve been', and frequent lowercase letters at the beginning of sentences and for personal pronouns. Although the meaning is generally retrievable despite these numerous inaccuracies, the high frequency of errors across basic and complex sentences restricts the score to a band 5.0.
