Student answer (Band 4.5)

Animals are crucial and independent creature to live on the planet.People in rural areas brought up animals like sheep, cattle etc for thier household usage. They prefer to alter these animals to obtain their meat.Such activities are practised in rural sides where people under poverty line cannot get sufficient livelihood to eat meat. They slaughter their pet animals to eat their meat.I strongly oppose the notion of altering the animals for personal use.As this practice not only,is a deletrious for animals life also affects the species number.Animals, like human beings have family tree.Their species are affected ny this practic of humans. They work for humans, yields milk from whic vitl dairy products are obtained. These are beneficial for humans hence in my perspective, animals should not be slaughtered to obtain meat.As this in brutal rather they should be kept safe .

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The student attempts to address the prompt by expressing a clear position opposing the consumption of meat, mentioning points such as animal cruelty, family structures, and utility (such as milk production). However, the response is severely limited by its length. Reaching only 135 words, it falls far short of the required 250-word minimum. Consequently, the ideas remain highly undeveloped, brief, and underdeveloped. While a position is stated ('I strongly oppose the notion of altering the animals for personal use'), the lack of expansion prevents full task achievement. Because the length requirement is not met, the score is significantly penalized.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The response shows some basic attempts at organisation, but fails to use paragraphing effectively, presenting the entire text as a single, dense block of text. Cohesive devices are minimal, repetitive, and at times awkward, such as 'As this practice not only,is a deletrious for animals life also affects the species number' and 'hence in my perspective'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the progression of ideas is disjointed, jumping abruptly between rural poverty, animal families, and dairy utility without smooth transitions. Overall organisation is difficult to follow, reflecting Band 5 descriptors where information lacks a clear overall progression.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, with noticeable errors in word choice and form that occasionally impede the reader's understanding. Examples include 'independent creature' instead of 'creatures', 'altering these animals' (likely meaning slaughtering or raising), 'deletrious' (deleterious), 'practic', and 'vitl' (vital). While the student attempts some less common vocabulary such as 'livelihood' and 'beneficial', frequent spelling and word-formation errors constrain the lexical range. The vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey a basic stance, but lacks the precision and flexibility needed for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The grammatical structures are generally simple, with some attempts at complex sentences that are frequently faulty and poorly punctuated. Examples of significant grammatical and punctuation errors include 'As this practice not only,is a deletrious for animals life also affects the species number', 'yields milk from whic vitl dairy products are obtained', and 'As this in brutal rather they should be kept safe'. Punctuation is frequently misused, with missing spaces after periods and inappropriate comma placement. The high frequency of errors across basic and complex structures causes considerable difficulty for the reader.
