Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, coming in at only 157 words, which severely limits the development of ideas. The student attempts to address the prompt by stating a position ('I will totally agree for this statement'), but the arguments presented are extremely brief, repetitive, and lack sufficient support. For instance, the discussion on nutrition mentions vitamins and minerals but does not fully link this to a counterargument regarding the cruelty of raising animals, which is a central part of the prompt. Furthermore, the final paragraph drifts into unrelated points about government rules and grocery stores rather than fully developing the stance on whether meat consumption should cease entirely. As a result of the under-length nature and underdeveloped ideas, the response falls into the Band 4 descriptor for Task Achievement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into an introduction and two body paragraphs, showing an attempt at a basic structure. However, logical progression is frequently disrupted by abrupt transitions and disjointed sentences, such as 'People can do some sricks' at the end of the text. Cohesive devices are used in a very mechanical and repetitive manner, with phrases like 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand' included, but the internal connections within paragraphs are weak. Referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly with pronouns like 'they' and 'this' which lack clear antecedents. Paragraphing is attempted, but the overall arrangement lacks the clear progression required for higher bands. These issues place the response firmly at Band 5 for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, featuring frequent inappropriate word choices and spelling errors. Examples include 'indiviuals' instead of individuals, 'consumotion' instead of consumption, 'enample' instead of example, and 'vegetrain' instead of vegetarian. The student attempts some topic-related vocabulary such as 'nutrition', 'minerals', and 'protein', but the range is limited and inadequate for a fully realized discussion. There are also frequent issues with word forms and collocations, such as 'eat protein meals it good for body'. Because the vocabulary is restricted and errors cause some difficulty for the reader, the response meets the criteria for Band 4.5, rounded to 4.5.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0

The grammatical structures attempted are largely restricted to simple sentences, along with a few flawed attempts at complex forms. There are frequent and systematic errors in basic grammar, including missing articles ('meat provide more nutrition in our body'), incorrect subject-verb agreement, and severe punctuation issues. For example, sentences are frequently run together or abruptly terminated, such as 'After done workout we are eat protein meals it good for body.' The high frequency of grammatical errors strains the reader and obscures meaning in several places. These persistent errors across a very limited range of structures result in a band score of 4.0.
