Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that individuals should not consume meat as using animals for human consumption is brutal. I find the given notion to be logically sound and my viewpoints regarding this will be addressed in upcoming paragraphs leading to a logical conclusion.

To commence with, there are several reasons to reduce meat consumption. In many farming styles, animals are kept in small spaces and may not have sufficient freedom to behave naturally. For example, the shelters made for animals for producing meat are so conjusted that some of them even cannot survive in these conditions. In addition, animals face a lot of stress during transportation. They are treated in a bad way. Hence, this is inhumane method of raising animals.

On the other hand, meat consumption should not be completely banned. Humans are consuming meat from thousands of years, and its a great source to provide nutrients such as protein, iron and much more. Although these nutrients can be obtained from plant based foods or supplements, a balanced diet that include a moderate amount of meat can be beneficial for humans. Moreover, animal consumption is helpful to mainful maintain food chain in ecosystem.

In Conclusion, Although production of meat includes cruel behaviour towards livestock such as stress and small spaces for their living, yet it is necessary for gaining nutrients and to maintain a balanced ecosystem. In my opinion, there must be a balanced approach to for treating livestock. Government should make some measures to protect animals in the best way possible.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the cruel aspects of raising livestock for meat and the counterarguments regarding nutritional value and the ecosystem. The student takes a somewhat ambivalent stance, initially finding the notion to be logically sound, but later suggesting a balanced approach. Ideas are generally relevant, but some points, such as 'protein, iron and much more', are slightly under-developed and lack extension. The conclusion attempts to balance the two viewpoints effectively. This performance aligns well with Band 6.0 descriptors, where all parts of the task are addressed, though some ideas remain somewhat underdeveloped.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear attempt at paragraphing, featuring an introduction, body paragraphs addressing opposing views, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'In addition', and 'On the other hand', although some of these feel a bit mechanical or formulaic. Referencing is generally clear, though transitional flow between sentences could be smoother in places. Overall, the logical progression is evident, fitting the Band 6 descriptor where cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, but the overall arrangement remains coherent.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms like 'consumption', 'nutrients', 'ecosystem', and 'livestock'. However, there are some lexical errors and awkward word choices, such as 'conjusted' (congested), 'inhumane method' (an inhumane method), 'consuming meat from thousands of years' (for thousands of years), and 'mainful maintain' (a typo and redundancy). Less common vocabulary is attempted but with occasional inaccuracy. This corresponds to Band 6, where the vocabulary is adequate for the task and communication is not impeded despite some errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at subordination and varied structures, such as conditional and concessive clauses ('Although these nutrients can be obtained...'). However, there are noticeable grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, including 'its a great source' (it's), 'diet that include' (includes), and 'approach to for treating' (unnecessary preposition). Punctuation and article usage also contain minor flaws. Because errors are present but rarely impede communication, this performance sits comfortably at Band 6.0.
