Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
The response addresses the prompt by discussing whether raising animals for meat is cruel and whether people should stop eating meat, ultimately presenting a balanced or slightly hesitant personal viewpoint in the conclusion. However, the ideas lack full development and clarity. For instance, the second paragraph attempts to discuss factory farming with examples like 'chicken and pig grow very fast where people feed them too much even they can't able to stand in their own leg,' but the reasoning is disjointed and hard to follow. The writer touches upon alternatives and the economic impact on business owners in the third paragraph, but these points are thrown together without deep elaboration. According to the Band 5 descriptors, the task is addressed only partially, and the position becomes somewhat unclear, especially with the contradictory concluding statement 'i not totally agree and not totally disagree.' Therefore, a Band 5.0 is appropriate.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The essay is divided into four paragraphs, showing a basic attempt at structural organization with an introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. However, logical progression is frequently disrupted by abrupt shifts in topic and poor cohesion. For example, the transition from discussing fast-growing factory animals in paragraph two to fresh vegetables and business owners in paragraph three feels disjointed and confusing. Cohesive devices are often inadequate, inaccurate, or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'however' and 'there are those who.' Furthermore, referencing is sometimes unclear, as seen in the sentence 'For example, creature which is bigger than us where it raising up us to eat how it feel to us.' Paragraphing is used, but the internal flow of ideas is mechanical and lacks smooth transitions, aligning closely with the Band 5 descriptors.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses a limited but minimally adequate range of vocabulary to express basic ideas related to the topic, such as 'consumption,' 'alternatives,' and 'protein intake.' However, there are numerous inappropriate word choices and collocations that reveal a lack of precision, such as 'convince' instead of 'convinced' or 'of the opinion,' 'raise only for humans' instead of 'raised,' and 'in instant of meat' instead of 'instead of meat.' Additionally, spelling errors like 'view point' and minor morphological issues occur throughout the text. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey a general meaning, the noticeable errors and restricted range place this response firmly in the Band 5 category.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, but control over grammar and punctuation is weak. Frequent errors are present throughout the text, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('meat have the main focus', 'creature which is bigger... where it raising up'), missing auxiliary verbs ('even they can't able to stand'), and capitalization errors ('i not totally agree'). Complex sentence structures are frequently faulty and obscure the intended meaning, such as in the convoluted sentence 'For example, creature which is bigger than us where it raising up us to eat how it feel to us it is same as we raising chicken.' Because these errors are frequent and occasionally cause difficulty for the reader to understand the intended message, the grammar score corresponds to a Band 5.0.
