Student answer (Band 5.5)
Nowadays, rearing animals for people to eat is cruel, therefore, human beings should not consume meat.I totally disagree with this statement and I will discuss my view in this essay and give reasons for my opinion.
on one hand, the most compelling reasons for holding to my view is that, raising animals is very important for people to eat because it is a source of protein which is the one of essential elements of food, for instance, the intake of animal helps to repair worn out tissues and also help in peoples growth both physically and intellectually which led to normal functioning of human health and improves their knowledge and ability to think fast.
on the other hand, another reasons for holding to my view is that, consumption of meat help to save peoples life from certain illness and diseases because if people are not eating meat they will suffer from kwashiokor which can lead to death.Inaddition, consumption of meat help to promote wound healing for an injured person, for example, a research carried out by medical doctors at Nnamdi Azikiwe University on wound healing shows that nintynine percen of people strongly aggree that consumption of meat is one of the way by which wound can be healed quickly.Furthermore, consumption of meat help one to grow to old age .
In conclusion, the in take of meat is essential because it promotes peoples health, nourish their skin and also help in their growth both physically and psychologically.I completely disagree with above statement. Therefore, goverment should provide a place where different kind of animals should be raise for peoples consumption.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses the prompt directly by taking a clear position against the idea that raising animals for food is cruel and that humans should stop eating meat. The student extends their position with supporting reasons, such as the nutritional benefits of protein, prevention of diseases like kwashiorkor, and the promotion of wound healing. However, the development of these ideas leans heavily on unsupported assertions and generalisations, such as the claim about ninety-nine percent of people strongly agreeing based on research. While all parts of the task are addressed, the arguments would benefit from greater depth and more authentic elaboration rather than repetitive claims about health and longevity. This places the performance firmly at Band 6.0 according to the task response descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs featuring distinct supporting points, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used to separate ideas, although spacing and punctuation conventions (such as missing spaces after commas and periods, e.g., 'Nowadays, rearing', 'meat.I') disrupt the flow. Cohesive devices are employed, notably transitions like 'on one hand', 'on the other hand', and 'In conclusion', but these are sometimes formulaic or mechanically applied. Referencing and logical progression are generally adequate to make the writer's line of thought clear, despite occasional lapses in cohesion. These features align well with the Band 6 descriptor.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully using terms related to health, nutrition, and diet, such as 'protein', 'essential elements', 'consumption', and 'psychologically'. However, there are notable limitations and word choice errors, such as 'intake of animal', 'nintynine percen', and 'aggree', alongside awkward phrasing like 'grow to old age'. Less common lexical items are attempted but occasionally lack precise collocation or accuracy. Although these errors do not severely impede communication because the overall meaning remains transparent, they restrict the vocabulary score to a solid Band 5.5 or Band 6.0. Given the presence of spelling errors and restricted precision, a Band 5.5 is appropriate.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting subordination and relative clauses, such as 'because if people are not eating meat they will suffer from kwashiorkor which can lead to death.' However, there are frequent grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, including run-on sentences with comma splices ('Nowdays, rearing animals... is cruel, therefore'), subject-verb agreement issues ('consumption of meat help'), and missing articles ('goverment should provide a place'). While these errors do not completely obscure the message, their high frequency across most sentences prevents the response from achieving a Band 6.0, making Band 5.0 a more accurate reflection of grammatical control and accuracy.
