Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many believe that people should stop consuming meat, as raising animals for feeding individuals is harsh. I disagree with this statement because it is individual's choice to eat healthy and animal farming supports finanically.

To begin with, eating meat is a preference for a healthy lifestyle, which is a vital source of essential nutrients for human health. Meat is a prime source of protein that is required for cellular repair, immune function, and muscle maintenance. It helps to keep a person away from diseases. For instance, health conscious individuals follow the diet plan that includes meat products suggested by gym trainers, which gives them energy for whole day after practicing in gym. As a result, meat consumption becomes significantly important for non-vegetarians.

More importantly, animal farming is a largest growing industry in the world, which helps in economical growth. It provide employment opportunities for locals to earn livelihood, and companies have been earning large amount of profits from this business, which prove to be beneficial for overall development of society. For example, the meat factories brought hundreds of jobs to the cities. providing a stable oncome for local families.

Therefore, it becomes necessary to raise animals.

In conclusion, it is clear that animals are crucial part of society and provide nutrients to non-vegetarians and raising animals supports businesses and locals to earn money. Thus, raising animals leads to positive outcomes for both individuals, and society. I strongly believe that eating animals for healthy lifestyle is not cruel at all.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position against the idea that meat consumption should be banned due to cruelty. The writer provides two main supporting arguments: the nutritional value of meat for a healthy lifestyle and the economic benefits of the animal farming industry. Ideas are supported with relevant examples, such as gym trainers suggesting diet plans and meat factories creating jobs. However, the response falls slightly short of the 250-word minimum requirement, containing only 248 words, which leads to a minor penalty under Task Achievement. Additionally, some arguments like the economic growth aspect could have been slightly more extended to fully satisfy higher band descriptors. Despite these limitations, the overall task is addressed adequately and a clear position is maintained throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with clear paragraphing used to structure the introduction, two body paragraphs, and the conclusion. Logical markers such as 'To begin with', 'More importantly', and 'In conclusion' are employed to guide the reader through the text, although some cohesive devices feel a bit mechanical. Referencing is generally clear, though minor cohesive slips occur, such as awkward transitions and occasional punctuation errors surrounding introductory phrases. Paragraph progression is logical, moving from health benefits to economic impacts, ensuring that the main ideas are presented in an organized manner despite minor flaws in cohesion management.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary suitable for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'nutrients', 'cellular repair', 'economical growth', and 'livelihood'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies throughout the text, such as 'raising animals for feeding individuals is harsh' instead of cruel, 'supports finanically' instead of financially, and 'stable oncome' instead of income. Spelling and word-form errors are present but they do not impede overall communication. The lexical range is sufficient to convey the intended message, placing the response comfortably within the competent band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures. However, grammatical errors are frequent enough to affect the overall impression. Examples include article errors ('is a largest growing industry', 'gives them energy for whole day'), prepositional issues ('practicing in gym'), and subject-verb or word-form issues ('it is individual's choice', 'It provide employment'). Punctuation slips are also visible, such as a missing space and capitalisation issue ('diseases. For instance'). Despite these errors, the complex structures attempted do not severely impede comprehension, allowing the reader to follow the argument clearly.
