Student answer (Band 5.5)

Some people maintain that individuals should never consume meat, because raising animals for human consumption is very cruel, while others hold opposing view, assuming that animals indeed are made to be eaten by humans and it is has many advantages for the health of human beings .

I completely disagree with this statement, that people should never eat meat, and the following essay will explain my position using relevant evidence.

To begin with, a large number of individuals support people who consume meat regularly, because it is very healthy and human body needs enough proteins. For instance, recent study conducted by Babe Zouar University, shows that most people that do not consume animals meat suffer from various illnesses such as autoimmune diseases, chronic illnesses, due to lack of several vitamins.

Another major reason is a human body can never survive on vegan or vegetarian food, because certain animals are created for people consumption.

Moreover, meat have a great important value for the body. For instance, it has several vitamins b12,b6,b9, those complements can protect human body from collapsing and exposing to different severe illnesses. Additionally, eating animals meat can contribute to nutrition balance around the world.

On conclusion, although many people believe that individuals should not eat animals meat, others hold opposing opinion assuming that fresh meat is very beneficial for humans body. I completely agree with this view and I support eating animals meat regularly or eatch week, because is has many advantages for people's mental and physical health.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

The student addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position of complete disagreement with the statement that people should never eat meat. Main ideas are presented, such as the health benefits of meat consumption and the role of nutrients like vitamins B12, B6, and B9. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive, particularly regarding health claims, which tends to over-generalise. For instance, the assertion that a human body can never survive on vegan food lacks nuance and strong supporting evidence beyond a vaguely cited university study. While all parts of the prompt are addressed, the arguments would benefit from greater depth and broader elaboration to reach a higher band. Overall, the response fulfills the basic requirements of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points. Cohesive devices are employed to link ideas, such as 'To begin with', 'Another major reason', and 'On conclusion' (though the standard idiom is 'In conclusion'). However, referencing and transitions are sometimes mechanical or slightly awkward, such as 'assuming that animals indeed are made to be eaten by humans and it is has many advantages'. The logical progression is generally maintained, but the rigid structure of the transitional phrases reveals an over-reliance on formulaic patterns. Despite these flaws, the ideas are discernible and follow a logical sequence throughout the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'autoimmune diseases', 'nutrition balance', and specific vitamins like 'b12,b6,b9'. However, there are notable lexical errors and awkward word choices, including 'animals meat' instead of 'animal meat', 'for people consumption' instead of 'for human consumption', and 'eatch week' instead of 'each week'. There are also minor spelling and punctuation slips, such as missing capitalisation and spacing errors around commas. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning, these recurring inaccuracies in collocation and word form prevent the response from achieving a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and subordinate structures like 'although many people believe that individuals should not eat animals meat'. However, control over grammar and punctuation is inconsistent. There are several noticeable grammatical errors, such as 'meat have a great important value' (subject-verb agreement and word form), 'is has many advantages' (missing subject pronoun), and omitting articles where necessary ('a human body can never survive', 'recent study conducted'). Punctuation errors also occur, such as incorrect comma splices and spacing. While these errors do not severely impede overall communication, their frequency places the response firmly within the Band 5 descriptor range.
