Student answer (Band 5.5)

There are a certain number of people believes that we should completely ban meat consumption. I do not agree with this statement. I will disucss my perspective further in the essay.

Many people believes a meat consumption should not banned as meat contains large amount of protein. There are many people who depends on a meat as source of protein. Even many doctors says people who consume meat are more likely to complete their daily protein intake easily. In some parts of the world there is limited amount of vegetation is avaible. In this cases people have no other option than relay on the meat as their source of food.

On the other hand people says that taking someone's life just for the sake of food because it is painful and brutule. In many cases people who runs politry farms do not take good care of the animals. They do not provide proper diet to the chickens, cows and fishes. Moreover, they give them illigal drugs to boost thier growth. This can harm animals as well as people who consums meat.

I strongly believes that a meat consumption should not be banned entirely. Government should impose strict rules and regulations to the politry farms. They should introduce proper diet plan for the animals, and make sure that everyone follows it. In addition to that sluttering practices should be revised, so that the death of the animals becomes less painful.

To sum up, many people have strong arguments to ban a meat consumption entirely. However, in my opinion, we should not ban it completely. We have to make sure that good care of animals is being taken with implimation of strong rules and regulations.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by clearly stating a position against banning meat consumption and providing supporting arguments. The candidate discusses reasons such as protein intake, limited vegetation in certain regions, and animal welfare concerns, before offering a counter-proposal involving stricter regulations on poultry farms and improved slaughtering practices. While the ideas are generally relevant and cover different facets of the topic, some points are somewhat repetitive or lack deeper elaboration. For instance, the discussion on animal cruelty touches upon poor diets and illegal drugs, but the development remains basic. Overall, the task is addressed adequately and a clear stance is maintained throughout, fitting the Band 6 descriptor well.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The essay is divided into an introduction, three body paragraphs, and a brief conclusion, showing a clear overall arrangement. However, logical progression within and between paragraphs is sometimes disrupted by mechanical or faulty cohesion. Phrases like 'Many people believes a meat consumption should not banned' and 'On the other hand people says' lack smooth transitional markers. Referencing can also be imprecise, such as using 'This' without a completely clear antecedent in places. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion requires better linking devices and organizational flow to reach a higher band level.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to communicate basic arguments about diet, animal welfare, and regulations. However, there are numerous word-form and spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'disucss', 'believes' instead of 'believe', 'avaible', 'relay' instead of 'rely', 'brutule', 'politry', 'illigal', 'consums', and 'sluttering'. Attempts to use less common vocabulary are undermined by these persistent inaccuracies, which sometimes distract the reader, though communication is rarely impeded entirely. A wider, more precise range of lexical items is needed for a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, such as 'In some parts of the world there is limited amount of vegetation is avaible.' However, grammatical accuracy is notably weak, featuring frequent errors in subject-verb agreement ('a certain number of people believes', 'many people believes'), article usage ('a meat consumption', 'a source of food'), and prepositional choices ('relay on the meat'). Punctuation is generally basic, and structural flaws occur regularly. While the meaning remains mostly clear despite the errors, the frequency of basic grammatical inaccuracies places this text firmly at the Band 5 level.
