Student answer (Band 5.5)
some part of society believes that people should not eat meat because it is cruel to animals. However, others believe that it is part of the diet as they get protein from animals. I partially agree because animals also have the right to live their lives, whereas others get essential nutrients from animals.
To begin with, it is believed by some individuals that eating meat is cruel to innocent animals because god gives equal rights to everything on earth as animals also have feelings and feel pain as they also need support and love from everyone. For example, animals rights millions of innocent animals killed every month for food which ultimately affects the chain of nature. As a result, the number of animals breeds is becoming extinct. humans should eat plant-based foods so they stop cruel to the animals.
On the other hand, In some part of the world are so cold that plants can not grow due to that people have to eat non-vegetarian food and nowadays humans are not getting enough nutrition from plants so they have to eat non-vegetarian food. For instance, one research shows that people can not get amino acids from plants so they get these acids from animals. ultoimately animal based become their daily diet. Consequently, eating animals become part of thier daIily healthy diet
In conclusion, eating non-vegetarian food have both advantage and disadvance because number of people get nutrition from animal based food where as it can effect on the animals life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both sides of the argument and presenting a partial agreement in the introduction and conclusion. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For example, while the point about extreme weather conditions preventing plant growth in certain parts of the world is a relevant idea, it is left somewhat under-developed. Similarly, the discussion on animal rights mentions that 'millions of innocent animals killed every month' but lacks clear extension and specific supporting examples from personal knowledge or experience, relying instead on general assertions. To move to a higher band, the writer needs to ensure that every main idea is fully explained, extended, and supported with well-developed details or personal examples throughout the body paragraphs.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing an attempt to organise ideas logically. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical. Cohesive devices are used, but transitions such as 'To begin with', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' feel a bit formulaic, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the phrase 'whereas others get essential nutrients from animals' where the pronoun reference is slightly ambiguous. Paragraphing is used sufficiently to structure the essay, but the logical progression within paragraphs could be smoother. To achieve a higher band, the writer should employ a wider and more flexible variety of cohesive devices naturally and ensure that referencing between sentences is consistently precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task and attempts less common vocabulary such as 'plant-based foods', 'non-vegetarian food', and 'amino acids'. However, there are noticeable spelling, word-choice, and word-formation errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'ultoimately', 'thier', 'daIily', and 'disadvance', alongside awkward phrasing like 'stop cruel to the animals'. These lexical inaccuracies do not completely impede communication, but they restrict the score. To progress to a higher band, the writer needs to expand their control of less common lexical items, improve precision in word choice and collocations, and eliminate spelling errors by carefully proofreading their work.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The essay displays a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures like conditional and concessive clauses (e.g., 'because plants can not grow due to that people have to...'). There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, such as run-on sentences, missing articles (e.g., 'one research shows'), and faulty prepositional or structural patterns (e.g., 'eating animals become part of thier daIily healthy diet'). Nevertheless, these errors rarely impede overall communication. To reach a higher band, the writer must demonstrate greater control over complex sentence structures, ensure consistent subject-verb agreement, and reduce grammatical inaccuracies to achieve more error-free sentences.
