Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people believe that humans should never eat meat justifying that raising animals for consumption is cruel. Regarding to this statement, I partly agree.
I strongly support the idea that raising animals for human's consumption is cruel and also unfair. I'm vegetarian since 2013, and the reasons that leaded me to stop eating meat were related to this type of mindset and more:
First, I believe that humans should live together with the animals in the same environment, that we all are part of the system with no hierarchycal value, even thought at the past and untill now it does exists in the animal environment.
Second, I don't believe that animals has differents values. For example, there are animals that we are supposed to eat and others to love, such as cows and dogs. If we can eat cow this means that is has less value than dogs, because this second one we are supposed to love. But from my perspective, both has same value and no distinction.
Second, I strongly believe in energy and that killing animals generate a heavy bad energy, which I named as death energy, and I really don't wanna have bad energy inside me.
The part of this topic that I disagree is that humans should never eat meat, because people has different realities and needs. For example, in regions that has severe winter weather, people has only fish as protein food option, so they don't have choice. There is region that planting is really hard and they need to eat animals to survive.
In conclusion, I believe that people need to make the choice that best suits with their realities, financial conditions, health needs, culture and possibilities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you partly agree, supporting animal welfare while recognising that some people depend on meat. You address both sides and give relevant reasons, including your own vegetarian experience and the example of communities facing severe winters or difficult conditions for growing crops. This meets the task well. The response also shows some development beyond a simple opinion, particularly in the comparison between cows and dogs. However, the argument about “death energy” is asserted rather than explained, and the survival example would be stronger with a specific place or clearer detail. To develop the response further, explain how these examples support your position and distinguish unavoidable need from ordinary meat consumption.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, supporting reasons, a qualification, and a conclusion. Paragraphing helps separate your main position from the reasons for disagreeing with an absolute ban. Linking expressions such as “First,” “For example,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow. However, the sequence is not always smooth: “Second” is used twice, and the list of reasons moves from animal equality to spiritual energy without a clear transition. Some references, such as “this second one,” require the reader to work out that you mean dogs. Use a more varied set of transitions and make each paragraph’s central point explicit to create clearer progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range to express your position and examples, including “hierarchical value,” “severe winter weather,” “protein food option,” and “financial conditions.” These choices show attempts to discuss ethical and practical aspects of the topic, and the meaning is generally understandable. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however, as in “humans for consumption,” “heavy bad energy,” and “planting is really hard.” There are also spelling or word-form problems such as “hierarchycal” and “differents.” Aim for more precise, natural phrasing, especially when presenting abstract ideas: for instance, explain the spiritual claim in clearer terms or use a more neutral expression. Proofreading for spelling and collocation would improve control.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “regions that has severe winter weather” and a conditional structure in “If we can eat cow this means…”. The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “animals has,” “people has,” and “both has,” where subject–verb agreement is incorrect, as well as “I'm vegetarian since 2013,” which needs a present-perfect form. Articles and sentence construction also need attention in “If we can eat cow this means that is has less value.” Practise checking agreement, tense, and complete clause structure, then punctuate longer sentences carefully. More accurate control of these patterns would make your varied sentences clearer.
