People should never eat meat because raising animals for human consumption is cruel.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?Give reasons for your answer, and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 5.5)
It is argued that meat comsumption should be completely avoided due to the inherent cruelty. I totally disagree with this idea as meat comsuption is imporant part of a balanced diet.
On one hand,it is good in its own way as people will consume more naturally grown food such as fruits, nuts and vegetables. They will eat vegan products and taste variety of products that are available in stores such as vegan ice-creams.They dont ever think to eat meat or any dairy product and also dont give or share any dairy product to somebody else.Eventually, animals stay safe. The places where animals are kept also matters alot. For instance, chickens are frequently kept in cages which leads to physical and psychological distress.
On the other hand,a ban on meat comsumption overlooks ethical farming practices and vital human needs.Organic and regenerative farming shows that animals live in a natural environment before slaughtering .Moreover, meat plays a fundamental role in a Balanced diet as it is a good source of proteins and some vitamins as well .People may get deficient of such products and can have diseases such as Kawasaki disease and Vitamin B12 deficiency etc as meat and other dairy products are the good sources of such vitamins, which when not consumed can lead to such diseases , not everyone can afford the treatment so the idea on blanket banning of meat is not good though.
In conclusion,I would say that everyone has his/her own preferences to eat, live, buy , places to visit and so on , so nothing should be totally banned until and unless its harmful for one's health. It should be up to people whoever wants to eat anything can buy it from the market and consume it as per their satisfaction.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear in the introduction and conclusion: you disagree with a complete ban, mainly because meat can contribute to nutrition and people should retain choice. You also acknowledge the opposing concern by describing chickens kept in cages, so the response addresses both sides of the issue. However, the discussion is only partly developed. The paragraph about vegan diets lists products and behaviours but does not clearly explain how these points support or challenge the claim about cruelty. The nutritional argument also needs more precise support: the reference to Kawasaki disease is not clearly connected to meat consumption, and the conclusion shifts to personal preference without returning to animal welfare. Develop fewer points with clearer explanations and relevant examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “On one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help identify the sections. However, the overall progression is not consistently clear. The first body paragraph begins by describing benefits of avoiding meat, then moves to vegan products and animal welfare, without making the relationship between these ideas explicit. The second paragraph presents farming and nutrition arguments, but the long sentence about deficiencies and treatment makes the reasoning difficult to follow. Some linking is mechanical, and punctuation spacing also interrupts the flow. Give each paragraph one clear central purpose, order supporting points logically, and use shorter sentences and clearer references to connect them.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “balanced diet,” “ethical farming practices,” “regenerative farming,” and “physical and psychological distress.” These choices show an attempt to discuss both nutrition and animal welfare. However, the range is uneven, with repeated use of “meat consumption,” “products,” and “good,” and several inaccurate or awkward expressions reduce precision. For example, “meat consumption is important part” and “a good source of proteins” are not natural collocations, while “taste variety of products” is unclear. Spelling errors such as “comsumption,” “imporant,” and “alot” are also noticeable. Aim for more precise topic-specific phrasing and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “chickens are frequently kept in cages which leads to…” and a contrastive structure beginning “Although” is not used, but “On the other hand” introduces a different argument. Meaning is generally recoverable, yet errors occur often enough to make some sentences awkward or difficult to follow. Examples include missing articles in “meat consumption is important part,” agreement problems in “chickens… which leads,” and the lengthy sentence beginning “People may get deficient…” where clauses are joined without clear control. Sentence boundaries and commas are also inconsistent. Practise accurate article use, subject–verb agreement, and breaking long sentences into complete, well-punctuated units.
