Student answer (Band 6.0)

The debate over whether people should stop eating meat inbolves strong ethical, nutritional, and environmental arguments.Well, I disagree with the idea of never eating meat.

On one hand, people consider it as a cruel act because they overthink a alot , they have pigeon heart that gets disturbed by any small act. They also find it really disturbing that farming conditions are not good for the animals, like they are kept in confined spaces that restrict their natural behavior. Moreover, some farmers cut beaks of the chicken as well and keep them like this while get benefits from them as they lay eggs, they either consume or sell them. This group of people argue that why humans have right to consume little creatures who can not even speak for their justice for food consumption while there are plant-based resources also available in the market.

On the other hand, there are another group of people who argue that consuming meat is a part of their life,if they don't eat meat;it will affect their balanced diet that contains proper portion of proteins, carbs, vitamins and minerals etc.If they dont get sufficient protein,i.e.from animals they will loose their body mass easily and may get diseases like kwashiorkor in children etc as plant based resources don't provide a good amount of proteins that is a basic requirement of human body.

Well in my opinion, there should be limit to slaughter animals and there should be a proper shelter to keep the animals that does not restrict their natural behaviour. But I totally disagree with the idea of never eating meat as this is a basic requirement of a body to have a Balanced diet.

Furthermore, its people own decision whether they want to eat meat or not;nobody should argue with them and let them live and eat as they like.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you disagree with a complete ban on meat, while accepting that animal welfare should improve. You address both sides by describing concerns about confinement and beak-cutting, then presenting nutrition as a reason people eat meat. These are relevant points, but they are not developed equally. The claim that plant-based foods do not provide enough protein is too broad and would be stronger with a qualified explanation or a specific example. The animal-welfare paragraph also includes dismissive language about people who object, rather than examining their argument fairly. To strengthen the response, explain how your proposed limits and better shelters could address cruelty while allowing meat consumption, and support your main reasons more precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, contrasting paragraphs beginning “On one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a concluding position. This gives the reader a clear route through the discussion, and the final paragraph returns to your central view. You also use linking expressions such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore.” However, some connections feel mechanical, and the final paragraph introduces personal choice without clearly linking it to the earlier discussion of animal welfare and nutrition. Several sentences contain multiple ideas joined by commas, which makes the progression harder to follow. Use clearer sentence boundaries and make each paragraph develop one main point, with transitions that show how the evidence supports your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “confined spaces,” “natural behaviour,” “plant-based resources,” and “balanced diet,” which helps communicate the main issues. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “slaughter” and “sufficient protein.” However, a number of choices are inaccurate, informal, or unsuitable for an academic argument. “Pigeon heart” and “overthink a lot” are unclear and dismissive, while “little creatures” is imprecise. Spelling and word-form errors such as “inbolves,” “loose,” and “dont” also reduce control. Aim for neutral, precise wording and check spelling carefully; for example, describe opponents as “concerned about animal welfare” rather than using a personal judgement.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “while,” and “that,” and the main meaning is generally understandable. However, some sentence structures are difficult to control, particularly the long sentence beginning “Moreover, some farmers cut beaks…” and the sentence about protein and disease. There are also errors in agreement and sentence construction, such as “there are another group,” “there should be limit,” and “its people own decision.” Comma splices and missing punctuation occur throughout, for example after introductory phrases such as “On the other hand.” Work on accurate articles, subject–verb agreement, possessives, and separating complete ideas into sentences. More controlled complex sentences would improve clarity without sacrificing range.
