Student answer (Band 7.0)

Physical Education Classes are an important part of a child's education. Of course, like a coin has two sides, this too has a set of audience that believes the academics during school time holds more importance. I was a product of the later, as my parents believed that academics were more important.

Growing up, I belonged to a school which had hours assigned to the Physical Education classes, but those hours always ended up taken by teachers from other subjects, like Math. It was devastating. When spoken to my parents about it, they were supportive of it, which was even worse to experience as a kid.

While I understand the importance of academics like Social Studies, Science, ad Mathematics for kids, I cannot agree to the statement that academics hold power over Physical education. In my opinion, it is only when you move your body, you are entitled to think clearer and become wiser. It is the core reason why we are facing such lifestyle issues as young adult now. If we had the right teachings since the very beginning, it would've come easier to us to maintain a balance between mental health and physical health.

To conclude, if I were at a position of power to make decisions, I would give equal importance to both, physical and academic education. I would assign a minimum of 2-hours for students to just play, run, throw ball, and just do thinks child-like. I believe, it is very important for their health, physical and mental. Alongside that, I would make sure for them to have more than enough time to complete their studies and homework. They are kids after all, and we all know what about school we all miss.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, particularly the personal anecdote regarding the displacement of physical education by academic subjects. However, the development of the argument is somewhat limited. While you mention the importance of physical activity for mental health and lifestyle issues, the points could be expanded with more depth or specific examples beyond your own experience. The conclusion is clear, but the suggestion of '2-hours' of play is a bit simplistic. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting arguments are more thoroughly explored and balanced against the academic perspective.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'While I understand' and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. For instance, the jump from your personal experience to the general argument about lifestyle issues could be smoother. Additionally, the use of referencing is sometimes slightly unclear, such as in the phrase 'which was even worse to experience as a kid', where the antecedent is slightly ambiguous. Improving the variety of linking words would enhance the overall cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using phrases like 'devastating', 'entitled to think clearer', and 'maintain a balance'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'product of the later' (should be 'latter') and 'do thinks child-like' (should be 'things'). While you attempt to use some less common vocabulary, the overall range is somewhat limited and occasionally repetitive. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that your word choices are consistently accurate to convey your ideas with greater sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. You show control over basic grammar, but there are several noticeable errors that persist throughout the text. Examples include 'as young adult now' (should be 'as young adults'), 'if I were at a position' (should be 'in a position'), and 'what about school we all miss' (awkward phrasing). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, pluralization, and refining your use of complex sentence structures to ensure they are error-free.
