Student answer (Band 6.5)

There has been debate going on related to education in the schools. One group of people believes physical education is crucial while, other people believes basic subjectes like mathematics, science, sociology and other subjects are more nessesory for childs growth during school time. This essay will discuss both the viewpoints in detail before commenting on my opinion.

People who supports on the first opinion that physical education is mandantory they have following reasons for supporting this viewpoint. First and foremost is that if they play sports and games they will have more stamina and energy. Also, they will be more active and energetic in studies and more chances of good academic score. Additionaly, it will not only improve physical health but also improves their mental health. This is how they will become more focused and smart in their school.

However, on the other side people thinks academic subjects are more crucial. To begin with, without basic academic subjects no one can survive in this modern world. Because these subjects are give us basic skills of life. For example, without knowing mathematics no one can able to survive in accountant field or become charted accountant. Another point is that, if anybody wants to become a doctor or engineer they need good score in these basic subjects to get enrollment.

To conclude and offer my position I support the former viewpoint. Although academic subjects are more important and basics for children in early age but without good mental health and physical fitness they can not become more focused and smart.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both viewpoints and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the link between physical activity and mental focus, and the necessity of academic subjects for career paths. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the argument regarding academic subjects could be strengthened by discussing the broader societal benefits of education rather than focusing solely on specific professions like accounting. The position is consistent throughout, but the supporting arguments would benefit from more depth and specific examples to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The progression of ideas is generally easy to follow. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'First and foremost' and 'To begin with'. Additionally, some transitions are slightly awkward, such as 'People who supports on the first opinion'. While the paragraphing is appropriate, the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and better referencing to avoid repetitive sentence structures.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. There are several spelling errors, such as 'subjectes', 'nessesory', 'mandantory', and 'charted accountant', which occasionally distract the reader. The range of vocabulary is limited to common, everyday words. To improve, you should aim to incorporate more topic-specific collocations and less common lexical items. For example, instead of 'smart', you could use 'cognitively sharp' or 'academically proficient'. The current level of vocabulary is sufficient to communicate the main ideas, but it does not demonstrate the flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the quality of the writing. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'People who supports', 'other people believes'), article usage, and sentence fragments or awkward phrasing (e.g., 'no one can able to survive'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, focus on mastering basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are constructed accurately. Reducing these frequent errors will significantly improve the clarity and professional tone of your writing.
