Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the argument regarding physical education focuses heavily on health and financial gain through sports, while the academic section is quite brief and lacks depth. The ideas are relevant but could be extended with more sophisticated reasoning or specific, real-world examples to fully meet the requirements of a higher band. The structure is present, but the content remains at a fairly basic level of analysis.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as 'otheside' and 'likewise, cancer, obesity etcetra'. Transitions between sentences are sometimes abrupt, and the logical flow is occasionally hindered by awkward phrasing. While there is an attempt to use linking words, they are not always used with precision, and the overall progression of ideas feels a bit disjointed in places. Paragraphing is present but could be more effectively utilised to separate distinct arguments.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is limited and often repetitive, with frequent errors in word choice and spelling (e.g., 'benifit', 'heath', 'imporatants', 'insance'). The range is sufficient to convey basic meaning, but there is little evidence of less common lexical items or an awareness of collocation. The student struggles with word forms, such as using 'physically knowledge' instead of 'physical knowledge' or 'physically subjects' instead of 'physical subjects'. These errors occasionally cause the reader to pause, though they do not completely impede communication.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are attempts at complex sentences, they are frequently marred by grammatical errors, such as 'if we wants to joint in it sector then we have to knowledge about computers'. Subject-verb agreement, article usage, and preposition errors are frequent throughout the text. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing around commas and periods. The frequency of these errors is high, which impacts the overall readability of the response, though the intended meaning is usually clear.
