Student answer (Band 6.5)

A number of individuals believe that sports education lessons are an essential part of child's schooling. Whereas many people argued that children should concentrate more on academics in school. Both views have their own merits and demerits. However, in my opinion both are equally important if a balance is maintained among them.

The significant advantage of having physical activities at school is that it would improve pupils' fitness and well-being. Nowadays, children are more attached to gadgets such as televisions, mobile phones and video games. They prefer playing indoor games like carrom board, snake and ladder, video games and ludo which does not involve any physical activities and this could have detrimental impact on youngsters heath which leads to obesity. Therefore, having fitness training at school would help students to exercise, relax and have a short break from their monotonous routine.

There is no doubt that academic success is more crucial for better career. some people say that students do not have much time at home to focus on studies therefore, they should utilized school hours more on achieving highest scores in all subject. Due to the factor that in today's competitive world all parents want their ward to successed as they are not just competing to the child next door or not even in the same city but they are competing with whole nation.

In my perspective, academic development is connected to a healthy mental health and overall student's well-being. Hence if a teenager is healthy and mentally strong then he can definitely achieve better in academic work.

In conclusion, both physical and academic activities should be focused at school to maintain the balance and for overall growth of a child.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the importance of physical education and the focus on academics. You clearly state your position in the introduction and maintain it throughout. The ideas are relevant, such as the link between physical activity and obesity, and the pressure of academic competition. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the argument regarding academic success could be expanded with more specific examples of how a balanced curriculum benefits long-term career prospects. Overall, the response is well-focused, but further elaboration would elevate the depth of the analysis.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'However', 'Therefore', and 'In conclusion', to link ideas. However, the transition between the second and third paragraphs is slightly abrupt, and some cohesive devices are used in a somewhat mechanical way. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the progression between sentences is smoother and more natural.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'detrimental impact', 'monotonous routine', and 'competitive world'. There are some minor errors in word choice and form, such as 'should utilized' instead of 'should utilize' and 'successed' instead of 'succeed'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precision. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and ensure that word forms are used correctly in context. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly but lacks the flexibility required for a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'Whereas many people argued' (should be 'argue'), 'does not involve' (should be 'do not involve' to agree with 'games'), and 'competing to the child' (should be 'competing with'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some missing commas that would improve readability. The majority of your sentences are clear, but the frequency of these minor errors prevents a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement and consistent tense usage.
