Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 132 words. Consequently, the task is only partially addressed. While the essay attempts to discuss both views, the ideas are severely underdeveloped and fragmented. The introduction is present, but the body paragraphs lack sufficient supporting evidence and logical expansion. Furthermore, the student fails to provide a clear, coherent opinion as requested by the prompt. Due to the significant under-length and the lack of depth in the arguments, the response does not meet the requirements for a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 4.0
The essay lacks a clear logical progression. While there is an attempt at paragraphing, the structure is disjointed, particularly in the second body paragraph where the ideas are presented as a list of phrases rather than full, coherent sentences. Cohesive devices are either missing or misused, such as the abrupt transition in the second paragraph. The overall arrangement of ideas is not sufficiently developed to create a smooth flow, making it difficult for the reader to follow the argument throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 4.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, which restricts the ability to convey complex ideas. There are numerous spelling errors throughout the text, such as 'aruges' for 'argues', 'impoetant' for 'important', 'nessasity' for 'necessity', and 'bith' for 'both'. These errors, combined with the limited range of vocabulary, indicate a basic level of control. The student struggles to use precise terminology related to the topic, relying on simple, often inaccurate word choices that occasionally impede the clarity of the message.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.0
The grammatical range is very limited, consisting mostly of simple sentence structures that are often error-ridden. There are frequent mistakes in subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Some aruges'), word order, and sentence construction. Many parts of the text are fragmented, lacking proper punctuation and complete clauses, which makes the writing difficult to read. The lack of complex structures and the high frequency of basic grammatical errors prevent the response from achieving a higher score.
