Student answer (Band 6.0)

This is a question that often divides opinion, with good points on both sides. However from my perspective, physical education plays a vital role in everyone life so I think it is the better option for a number of compelling reasons.

First of all, it is the most effective way for child to learn skills that helps to be fit physically. For Instance, children now a days facing many issues like stress, body weakness, feeling lazy. They are mostly addicted to playing games on electronic devices than playing in ground. To stay healthy as a long term goal people should have proper knowledge on physical education like doing yoga early in the morning or going for a run.

Another Key reason is that it gives proper knowledge on how important to do exercise. For example as a part of physical education if children play cricket . It helps them in making new friends, burning calories, reducing the stress caused by the pressure of academics. This helps them feel motivated and serves as competition among themselves.

While the other choice may have some value like it improves one's IQ, get to learn new things, to land any job proper qualification is very important it can be obtained only by focusing on academics. But it serves a narrower audience and therefore it's a less inclusive approach.

To sum up, I firmly believe that physical education is the smarter choice. It offers tangible benefits like reducing stress, making connections, staying fit while avoiding the drawbacks of the alternative.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal position. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the discussion on academics is quite brief and lacks depth, focusing primarily on the idea of 'narrower audience' rather than exploring the educational benefits of academic focus. While the prompt is addressed, the arguments could be more thoroughly supported with more nuanced examples. The position is consistent, but the overall development is limited by the brevity of the analysis provided in the body paragraphs.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'First of all', 'Another Key reason', and 'To sum up', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'While the other choice may have some value like it improves one's IQ...'. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the flow between sentences could be smoother to achieve a higher band.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are some instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'everyone life' (should be 'everyone's life') and 'playing in ground' (should be 'playing on the ground'). The use of vocabulary is generally functional, but there is little evidence of less common lexical items or sophisticated collocations. The student relies on basic descriptive terms like 'good points', 'vital role', and 'smarter choice', which are repetitive.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that, while not impeding communication, are noticeable. Examples include 'child to learn skills that helps' (subject-verb agreement), 'children now a days facing' (missing auxiliary verb), and 'it is more important to focus on academics' (the prompt's phrasing is repeated). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with capitalization and comma usage. The control of complex structures is limited, and errors in basic grammar persist throughout the text.
