Student answer (Band 6.0)

There has been a debate that physical education classes are important part of a child's education, while others believe that it is more important to fucus on academic during school time.

While both physical education and focusing mainly on academic during school time has their respective merits, I will support a blend of both for a balance study routine.

For a child's development and growth, there is need to teach the child what his physical self is made up of and how to care for his body, and to do this physical education is inevitable. For instance during my primary school days, we were told the need of exercise to the body and not only that, the school mapped out two hours every Tuesday for us to observe our physical exercise. This is a way of training us to stay fit and live a healthy life.

On the other hand some person believed that its a total waste of time and instead schools and training institutions should focus mainly on academic activities. Citing that time spent on physical education or exercises could be beneficial if spent leaning specific academic courses or topics. For an example time spent on inter class football matches, as a way of entertainment during school hours, if well utilized on teaching the students a basic science lesson, will yield a better academic result.

In conclusion, while both arguments on whether physical education is important for child's education or to focus on academic activities during school time have their respective merits, I strongly believe the a blend of both will create a balance on the child's education and physical development.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide a personal example for the importance of physical education, the discussion on the academic-only perspective is less developed and relies on a single hypothetical scenario. To reach a higher band, ensure that both viewpoints are explored with more depth and analytical detail. The position is consistent throughout, but the supporting arguments could be more robust to fully satisfy the requirements of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each viewpoint, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the other hand' and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be improved for better cohesion. For instance, the link between the need for physical education and your personal example could be smoother. Overall, the progression of ideas is clear, but the use of cohesive devices could be more varied and sophisticated to improve the logical flow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary used is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'physical education', 'academic activities', and 'development'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'balance study routine' (should be 'balanced study routine') and 'some person believed' (should be 'some people believe'). To improve, try to incorporate a wider range of less common lexical items and ensure that your word choices are precise and grammatically correct in context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('some person believed', 'both... has their respective merits') and minor punctuation or article errors ('the a blend'). These errors do not significantly impede communication, but they are noticeable. To achieve a higher score, focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and attempt to use a wider variety of complex structures with greater precision to demonstrate better control over your writing.
