Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is certain that in this contemporary era, education is very crucial for everyone. Here, people are divided on the topic that children need to pay attention only to academic subjects; however, others, including me, assert that physical education classes should be included with other academic classes, as it is a very important subject.

On one hand, individuals believe that learners should pay more attention to academic subjects because it will disturb the academic life of learners. The one extra class not only leads to an extra burden on young minds but also requires extra time. For instance, if pupils take a physical education class, they either have to extend the school time or exchange one academic class with physical education. When children reach home late, they feel tired and might be unable to complete their homework. Therefore, students might suffer from stress that consequently affects their academic grades.

On the other hand, Others and I believe that physical education needs to be a part of academics as it provides opportunities to students who might not be good at academic subjects. Physical education opens the door for children who have a good understanding of sports and nutrition, instead of other academic subjects. So, learners can benefit from it. Moreover, it also gives a chance to pupils to learn the basics about physical health, which I personally believe is vital for everyone to be aware of. For example, Physical education subject also has a practical session, that allow children to know about the variety of sports and their basics. Thus, it helps to develop interest in games as well as give insight about overall wellbeing of a person.

To conclude, although adding a physical education in academics can be a burden; however, it will be beneficial for th

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the potential for academic burden versus the benefits of physical health and inclusivity for non-academic students. However, the essay is incomplete, as it cuts off abruptly in the final sentence. This prevents the conclusion from being fully developed, which limits the score. To reach a higher band, ensure that the conclusion provides a comprehensive summary of the main points and a final thought, rather than ending mid-sentence.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs, and a beginning of a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'On one hand', 'On the other hand', 'Moreover', and 'For instance' are used effectively to guide the reader. However, the abrupt ending disrupts the overall flow and coherence of the final paragraph. While the progression of ideas is generally logical, the lack of a finished conclusion impacts the overall structure and cohesion of the piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at more specific terminology like 'contemporary era', 'academic subjects', and 'overall wellbeing'. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'adding a physical education in academics', which is slightly unnatural. The range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, but it lacks the sophistication and precision required for higher bands. Expanding the range of collocations and using more precise academic vocabulary would improve the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'Others and I believe that physical education needs to be a part of academics' (should be 'Physical education should be part of the curriculum') and 'that allow children' (should be 'that allows'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors, such as the unnecessary comma after 'session'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score.
