Student answer (Band 6.0)

While some people emphasize that for children, it is very essential to attend physical education classes, others are of the opinion that education system should have to focus on academic study only. I support the former view because classes related physical education serves a useful function in kids life.

On the one hand various factors there why a section of society advocates that physical education classes are a crucial part of a education and I also favour this. First and foremost, by attending these classes kids can easily learn the benefits of staying healthy and they will follow all the healthy habits in their life. To cite an example, when I was in grade 5, I was too fat because I used to eat unhealthy and outside food I started attending physical education classes that helped me a lot to loss my weight. Apart from that, these classes may helps them to break the monotony of hectic academic life. After attending physical education classes, they will feel more relaxed and healthy; as a result, they might be able to perform better in their academics also.

On the other hand, it is often argued by some that it is more important for schools to focus on academics only. The first argument is that when kids are at home they prefer to play games and physical activities only instead of studying at home. As a result, mostly parents wants that schools should have to focus on academics only.

In conclusion, although people are divided on different opinions, I firmly believe that physical education is an integral part of child's education because it helps them to learn about the healthy lifestyle that they follow in their entire life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the health benefits of physical education and the academic focus argument. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the argument regarding parents wanting an academic focus is a bit thin and could have been expanded with more depth. While the position is consistent, the supporting arguments would benefit from more sophisticated reasoning to reach a higher band. Overall, the response covers all parts of the prompt adequately.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'Apart from that', and 'In conclusion', though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or repetitive. The referencing is generally clear, but there are instances where the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the personal anecdote and the general benefit of physical education could be more tightly linked. Overall, the structure is logical and supports the development of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'integral part' and 'monotony', which is positive. However, there are also some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'very essential' (redundant), 'loss my weight' (should be 'lose'), and 'outside food' (less natural). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word choice to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('these classes may helps', 'mostly parents wants') and article usage ('a education', 'the healthy lifestyle'). Punctuation is generally functional, but some sentences are slightly awkward due to these grammatical slips. To improve, the writer should focus on proofreading for basic agreement and article errors, as these occur frequently enough to impact the overall accuracy of the writing.
