Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both sides of the argument and provides a personal opinion, though the conclusion is incomplete and lacks a clear final statement. The ideas are present but remain underdeveloped, often relying on vague examples like the 'Amazon of Canada' survey or the 'Tribune' headline, which lack depth and logical connection to the prompt. Furthermore, the response is under the 250-word minimum, which significantly limits the ability to fully develop the arguments. To improve, you should expand on your reasoning with more detailed explanations and ensure your conclusion clearly synthesizes your position.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay uses basic paragraphing and some cohesive devices like 'To commence with' and 'For instance'. However, the flow is frequently interrupted by awkward phrasing and grammatical errors that make the progression of ideas feel mechanical. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the transition between sentences is often abrupt. The conclusion is particularly weak and lacks the necessary structure to tie the essay together. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by supporting details that flow logically.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, with frequent errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'build there caree' (career) and 'academic study gives more opportunity to take a part of different field'. There are also persistent spelling errors throughout the text. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas precisely. To improve, you should work on learning collocations (words that naturally go together) and expand your vocabulary related to education and personal development. Avoid using informal or incorrect phrasing when discussing academic topics.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('Some people says'), article usage, and sentence structure. Many sentences are fragmented or lack proper punctuation, such as the incomplete final sentence. The range of grammatical structures is very limited, relying mostly on simple sentences with errors in basic verb tenses and word forms. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and proofreading for common errors like 'there' versus 'their'.
