Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both perspectives and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant, such as the focus on career prospects for academics and health/social benefits for physical education. However, the development of these ideas is occasionally hampered by awkward phrasing and minor logical gaps, such as the final sentence of the second body paragraph, which is difficult to follow. The position is consistent throughout, but the depth of argument could be improved by refining the connection between physical activity and academic performance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with', 'In the contrary', and 'To recapitulate', though some are used incorrectly (e.g., 'In the contrary' should be 'On the contrary'). Referencing is generally clear, but there are instances where the flow is interrupted by grammatical errors, such as 'who prioritise academic subjects have expand career', which makes the sentence structure confusing. Overall, the progression of ideas is evident, but the mechanical use of some linking words prevents a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated language like 'elucidate', 'well-rounded', and 'competitive job market'. However, there are frequent errors in word form and collocation, such as 'physical instruction' instead of 'physical education', 'have expand career' instead of 'have expanded career prospects', and 'theoretical that lead increaisngly lifesytle'. These errors are noticeable and occasionally distract the reader, though they do not fully impede communication. A wider range of precise vocabulary would be required for a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent errors in subject-verb agreement, tense, and word order (e.g., 'others aruged', 'schools hours should be devoting', 'that learn how to cooperate'). Punctuation is generally functional, but the frequency of grammatical slips is high enough to impact the overall fluency. To reach a higher band, the student needs to focus on consistent control of basic grammar and ensure that complex structures are formed accurately.
