Student answer (Band 6.5)
Some people believe that during school time, focusing on academics are more important, while others argue that physical education classes are significant part of child's education. This essay will discuss both the views before presenting my opinion.
On the one hand, why some people give more weightage to academics is because they may think that if a student only focus on their academics, they perhaps do well in their future. In today's fast-paced world, many companies generally short list job applicants on their number scored in their studies, since it reduces the number of applications and make the job easier of hiring. As a result, many parents, to secure their child's future, encourage them to study instead of attending physical education classes, as they believe that these classes can divert students and affect their performance.
On the other hand, games periods play an important role in child's overall development. The physical education classes often encourage children to play sports or exercise which keeps them fit and healthy. Moreover, children usually likes the physical activities, consequently, their mind relaxes which can improve their concentration in academics. So, these classes not only keeps the children healthy but also improves their performances in studies.
In my opinion, a balanced approached should be adopted. Academic educations can secure children future, whereas physical education can help children to keep them healthy both physically and mentally which are very vital for their overall development. Moreover, some individuals who were below average in studies have performed well in sports and made a better future, such individuals are Sachine Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.
In conclusion, both aspects are equally important for child's future and overall development because if a child focus on both, they have more opportunities to do better in their lives.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both viewpoints and providing a clear personal opinion. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported, such as the mention of job market pressures for academics and the holistic benefits of sports. However, some arguments could be further extended; for instance, the link between sports and academic performance is mentioned but could be explored with more depth. The position is consistent throughout the essay, and the conclusion effectively summarizes the main points. Overall, the response meets the requirements of the task well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'On the one hand', 'Moreover', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing (e.g., 'such individuals are Sachine Tendulkar'). Despite these minor flaws, the paragraphing is appropriate and the logical flow is maintained throughout the text.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task. The student uses some topic-specific terms like 'fast-paced world', 'holistic development', and 'job applicants'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'weightage' (which is less common in standard academic English) and 'number scored' instead of 'grades' or 'academic results'. There are also minor errors in word form, such as 'approached' instead of 'approach'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'academics are', 'children usually likes', 'these classes not only keeps'). There are also minor errors with articles and pluralization, such as 'a child focus' instead of 'a child focuses' and 'Sachine' (spelling). These errors do not impede communication, but they are persistent enough to prevent a higher score. A greater variety of error-free complex structures would be needed for a band 7.
