Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The essay addresses both sides of the argument and provides a clear opinion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For example, the explanation of physical education focuses heavily on first aid, which is a specific skill rather than the broader benefits of physical activity. Similarly, the academic section lists subjects but lacks a deep exploration of why these are essential for a child's development. While the prompt is addressed, the supporting arguments lack depth and the conclusion is slightly repetitive. To improve, you should focus on expanding your main points with more logical reasoning and clearer examples that directly support the core argument.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'On the other side' and 'To conclude that' are used, but the internal flow between sentences is frequently disrupted by awkward phrasing and missing logical connectors. For instance, the transition between discussing physical education and the specific example of first aid is abrupt. Additionally, the referencing is sometimes unclear, making it difficult to track the progression of ideas. Improving the variety and accuracy of linking words will significantly enhance the overall flow.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary range is limited and often repetitive. There are several spelling errors, such as 'neccesary', 'pyhsical', 'knowledghe', 'indidipent', and 'sciencetist', which occasionally impede readability. Word choice is often imprecise, such as using 'Few masses' to mean 'Some people' and 'carrer paths' instead of 'career prospects'. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'fine motor skills' and 'well-being', the overall control is inconsistent. To reach a higher band, you need to focus on accurate spelling and using more precise collocations to express your ideas more naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures, and attempts at complex sentences are frequently marred by grammatical errors. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement, such as 'physical education provide' instead of 'provides', and 'academics provide' instead of 'provide'. Articles are frequently missing or misused, and punctuation is often incorrect, particularly with the placement of commas and quotation marks. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar structures limits the score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent article usage would be a great starting point for improvement.
