Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you have addressed both sides of the argument, the discussion is superficial and lacks the depth required for a higher band. Furthermore, you did not clearly state your own opinion as requested by the prompt; you mentioned that the essay would discuss both sides, but you failed to provide a personal stance or conclusion. To improve, ensure you fully develop each point with specific examples and explicitly state your position in the introduction and conclusion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive start. However, the logical progression is hindered by the lack of a clear conclusion and the brevity of the arguments. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'At the outset' and 'On the contrary', but some transitions feel mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'other amount of thinkers'. The referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for basic communication but lacks the range and precision expected at higher levels. There are several awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'other amount of thinkers', 'accuire academics knowledge', and 'other bread of people'. These errors occasionally make the text sound unnatural. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and using more precise academic vocabulary rather than relying on basic or incorrectly used phrases.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of the writing. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('pre schoolers who does not need'), incorrect pluralisation ('academics knowledge'), and punctuation errors. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be highly beneficial.
