Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you address both sides of the argument and provide a personal opinion, the discussion is superficial and lacks depth. For instance, the arguments regarding physical education and academics are repetitive and lack specific examples or logical expansion. The conclusion is also very brief and does not effectively summarize the points made. To improve, you must expand on your arguments with concrete examples and ensure you meet the length requirement to allow for a full exploration of the topic.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which is a positive start. However, the use of cohesive devices is mechanical and sometimes inaccurate, such as the abrupt transition in the conclusion. There is a lack of logical progression between sentences, making the flow feel disjointed. Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the overall structure feels underdeveloped due to the brevity of the response. To achieve a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a clear, well-developed topic sentence followed by supporting details.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and repetitive, which restricts your ability to express complex ideas. There are several errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'physical education health' instead of 'physical education' and 'achieve good career' instead of 'pursue a successful career'. You rely on basic vocabulary throughout the text. To improve, try to incorporate more precise academic vocabulary and collocations related to the topic of education and health. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you avoid repeating the same words, such as 'study' and 'important', multiple times.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the essay, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('academics plays'), missing articles, and incorrect sentence structure. Many sentences are run-on or lack necessary punctuation, which makes them difficult to follow. While there is an attempt at complex sentence structures, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, ensuring correct verb forms, and using punctuation effectively to separate ideas. Proofreading for common errors like missing 's' on plural nouns or incorrect preposition usage will also help improve your accuracy.
