Student answer (Band 7.0)
When the topic of importance of physical education arises, people have dual opinions. Some believe that classes related to physical education are important part of children's upbringing. Whereas, others opine that school should focus more on academic subjects. Before my stance, both the views are elaborated in further paragraphs.
Supporters of the former view state that education related to fitness is crucial for students education, the most important reason for this is that children's stay more active and physically fit by doing such activities. As a result, it will reduce obesity and health problems. Additionally, exercise also reduces stress which improves concentration and mood. Moreover, they will develop social skills while playing sports by this I mean that team sports teaches cooperation communication, and discipline.
However, proponents of latter view claim that academics subjects should be prioritized. Firstly, subjects such as math, science and languages provide students with essential knowledge and skills for their future education and career. Spending more time on these subjects can help students achieve better grades and prepare for university or employment. Secondly, school timetables are limited, which means increasing more time in physical education will reduce time for important education lessons. For instance, students preparing for important examination may benefit more from additional study time than from extra sports classes.
In my opinion, school should not have to choose between physical education and academic subjects. Instead, a balance should be maintained between the two. While academic subjects are necessary for students' future careers, physical education contributes significantly to their physical health, mental well-being and social development. Therefore PE classes should remain an important part of the school curriculum without taking excessive time away from academic studies.
In conclusion, a balance education is the best approach because healthy and academically successful students are more likely to achieve their full potential.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all parts of the prompt by discussing both perspectives and providing a clear, balanced opinion. Your position is consistent throughout the essay. The ideas are relevant and generally well-supported, particularly in the body paragraphs where you explain the benefits of both physical education and academic focus. To reach a higher band, ensure that your supporting points are fully extended; for example, when mentioning 'social skills,' you could provide a more specific example of how a team sport environment directly translates to real-world workplace cooperation. Overall, the response is well-structured and directly answers the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, two body paragraphs for the opposing views, a paragraph for your own opinion, and a conclusion. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'Supporters of the former view,' 'However,' 'Firstly,' and 'In conclusion' to guide the reader. While the progression is clear, some transitions are slightly mechanical or repetitive. For instance, the phrase 'by this I mean that' is a bit informal and could be replaced with more sophisticated linking phrases. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate distinct ideas, contributing to the overall clarity of the argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with some precision, using terms like 'upbringing,' 'proponents,' 'prioritized,' and 'curriculum.' There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'balance education' instead of 'balanced education' and 'increasing more time' which is slightly awkward. You attempt to use less common vocabulary, which is good, but there is room to incorporate more precise collocations to enhance the sophistication of your writing. The vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows for clear communication of your ideas throughout the essay.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While many sentences are error-free, there are persistent minor grammatical issues. For example, 'children's stay more active' should be 'children stay more active,' and 'team sports teaches' should be 'team sports teach' (subject-verb agreement). Additionally, there are some punctuation errors, such as missing commas after introductory phrases. Despite these errors, your meaning is always clear, and the grammatical mistakes do not impede communication. To improve, focus on proofreading for subject-verb agreement and ensuring consistent use of articles.
