Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that physical education should be compulsory subject of a child's education, whereas others opine that other academic subjects are more significant and students should focus on that. I personally believe that, physical education and other academic subjects both are important, so child's should strike a balance among them.

People who think physical education should be mandatory in a child's education argue that, physical education helps to aware people about their physical development process and how other organ's works. It teach students about fitness techniques and nutrition diets. As a direct result, children come to know about healthy diets and importance of fitness. They follow guidance and improve their health, which is helpful in every stage of life. To cite an example, if students know about the requirements of their body from early age, they can stay healthy, and prevent themselves and their family from serious diseases.

However, people who oppose this view say that, children already have excessive burden due to having seven or eight subjects per term. Since, students spend maximum time of the day to complete their school related assignments, they do not have time to play outdoor or indoor games. Therefore, it may hinder the development of child's mind and body. For instance, when children play with each other, they acquire many essential skills which may enable them to work efficiently at workplace in the future, such as team work, cooperation, leadership, and decision-making. These skills are important for overall growth of a child's.

In my opinion, physical education is a important subject as mathematics and science. On the one hand, other subjects give knowledge about the topics which are essential for their career growth; on the other hand, physical education teaches students about their health which far important than anything. Teachers should strike a balance between these subjects, so children can learn about their body from early age which would be advantageous to live a healthy life.

To conclude, although physical education gives knowledge about human being health and diet, it also cause of unnecessary burden on children and can keep them busy in their studies. However, In my opinion, teacher should use a balanced approach and maintain a balance among subjects while giving homework. It would be beneficial for overall well-being of children.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The student addresses all parts of the task by discussing both views—the importance of physical education versus focusing on academics—and clearly states a personal position in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as the discussion on how physical education teaches fitness and teamwork skills that help prevent diseases and prepare individuals for the workplace. While some arguments, particularly around homework in the concluding paragraph, introduce slight confusion regarding the prompt's focus, the overall stance is clear, and the central aspects of the prompt are successfully covered throughout the essay, meeting the criteria for a Band 6.5 or 7.0 range, solidifying at Band 6.5 due to slight under-development in the counter-argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organised with a clear progression from introduction to body paragraphs and a concluding summary. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different viewpoints and the writer's opinion. Cohesive devices are employed to connect ideas, such as 'On the one hand', 'To cite an example', and 'However'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in the phrasing 'others opine that other academic subjects are more significant and students should focus on that' where pronoun referencing is slightly vague. Despite these minor issues, the overall arrangement remains coherent and easy to follow, aligning well with the Band 6.0 descriptors.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'compulsory subject', 'nutrition diets', 'cooperation', and 'overall well-being'. However, there are noticeable word-choice and collocation errors throughout the response, including 'physical education should be compulsory subject', 'aware people about', 'organ's works' (misuse of apostrophe and pluralisation), and 'far important than anything' (missing 'more'). Additionally, repetition of phrases like 'strike a balance' is evident. These inaccuracies do not impede communication but prevent the vocabulary score from reaching a higher band, placing it firmly at Band 6.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing conditional structures and relative clauses (e.g., 'if students know about the requirements... they can stay healthy'). However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement and article usage, such as 'so child's should strike a balance', 'It teach students', 'development of child's mind', and 'physical education is a important subject'. Punctuation and capitalization errors also appear, such as 'However, In my opinion'. Although these errors are noticeable and occur regularly, they rarely impede the overall communication of the writer's ideas, supporting a Band 6.0 score.
