Student answer (Band 6.0)

Physical education is considered important part of school by many people. While others, beleive that students should spend more time in academics . Although academics , plays important for child's future prospects, I beleive that physical education should also be included in school curriculum because it supports mental health and well being.

On the one hand, some people beleive that schools should mainly focus on academics. subjects such as Mathematics, science and english provide students better knowledge and skills which will help them to enter university and can find better career opportunities in the future. Futhermore , students have limited hours at school to study, so some parents beleive that they should focus on academic curriculum than sports. For example, children can have extra lessons for the subject in which they are struggling during school hours.

On the other hand, Physical education also play as essential role in children's development. Regular exercise keeps a person active , pysically fit and healthy. It also reduces risk of health problems. Apart from this issue , it also gives child a break from academic stress as when they return back to their classroom they feel relaxed and refreshed and willl focus properly. For instance, children participating in sports will learn how to cooprate with others while developing their physical abilities.

In conclusion, while academics subjects are important for student's educational prospects , physical education also provides benefits that can not be gained entirely from classroom learning. Therefore, I beleive schools should give appropriate time to both academics abd physical activity.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both the importance of physical education and the opposing view that academic focus should take priority, while also clearly stating the writer's own opinion in the introduction and conclusion. Ideas are relevant and supported with explanations, such as mentioning how academic subjects help with university entry and future careers, and how physical education promotes health and stress relief. However, some of the supporting ideas remain somewhat general and could have been extended further to fully meet the higher band descriptors. The position is maintained clearly throughout the essay.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay is generally coherent and shows a clear overall progression. The response is divided into four standard paragraphs with appropriate introductions and conclusions. Cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion' are used to signal the structure of the essay. However, there are some mechanical or slightly faulty cohesive links and occasional referencing issues, such as 'Apart from this issue' where the referent is slightly unclear. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct points of discussion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'future prospects', 'school curriculum', and 'academic stress'. However, there are several spelling errors throughout the text, including 'beleive' (repeatedly), 'Futhermore', 'abd', and minor punctuation/spacing issues. Word choices are mostly functional, though occasional inaccuracies occur, such as 'Physical education also play as essential role' instead of 'plays an essential role'. Despite these lexical errors, communication is not impeded.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like 'While others, beleive that...' and 'Although academics, plays important...'. However, there are frequent grammatical errors and punctuation lapses, such as missing articles ('important part of school', 'gives child a break'), incorrect verb forms ('Physical education also play'), and unnecessary commas separating subjects from verbs ('academics, plays important'). While the meaning is generally clear, the density of these grammatical slips prevents the response from achieving a higher band score.
