Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing both physical education and academic studies while presenting an opinion in the introduction and conclusion. However, the development of ideas is uneven. While the second and third body paragraphs introduce relevant points regarding fitness, concentration, and future career prospects, some arguments remain under-developed or repetitive. For instance, the discussion on how physical education boosts grades relies on general assertions rather than thorough exploration. The position is generally clear throughout the text, but to move to a higher band, the ideas would need to be extended and supported with more robust, specific reasoning and fully realized examples rather than generalized claims.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear organizational structure, using standard paragraphing to separate the introduction, two body paragraphs, and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are employed to signal transitions, such as 'On the one hand', 'On the other hand', and 'In conclusion'. However, cohesion is sometimes faulty or mechanical, and referencing is not always completely clear. For example, the sentence 'To make notable example for it, a survey was conducted...' feels formulaic and awkwardly linked to the preceding statement. To achieve a higher band, the flow between sentences needs to be more natural, and cohesive devices should be integrated with greater flexibility and precision rather than relying on repetitive transitional templates.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is minimally adequate for the task, providing a sufficient range to communicate the basic ideas. The writer attempts some less common vocabulary, such as 'indispensable', 'concentration level', and 'sky-rocketing salaries', but these attempts are frequently marred by inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and word form. For instance, phrases like 'eduaction play more important role' and 'grow they physical fitness' contain noticeable errors. Additionally, there are several spelling and morphological mistakes throughout the text, including 'eduaction', 'developlment', 'acitivity', and 'upcomig'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they restrict the vocabulary score and indicate a need for greater precision and control over word forms and spelling.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The writing demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as conditional sentences ('If they study physical education they will show their interest...') and relative clauses. However, there are numerous errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the response. Frequent issues include subject-verb agreement errors ('others thinks academics education play', 'Many students not able'), article omissions or misuse, and awkward prepositional patterns. Although these errors rarely completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the grammar score from rising higher. To reach the next level, the writer must exercise better control over complex sentence patterns and significantly reduce the frequency of basic grammatical slips.
