Student answer (Band 6.5)

Education plays a vital role in child's development, and there is a debate about whether schools should focus on physical education or academics. While academic learining helps child for successful career and knowledge, physical education is also necessary for good health and fitness

On the one hand, academic learining is essential because it provides knowledge and wisdom. Subjects such as science, mathematics and languages help students develop their thinking abilities which further helps them in their future goals achivement and consequently a good career. For instance, The children who do well in academics have a greater chances of enrollment in universities and pursue professional career. Therefore, giving time to academic learning can improve child's future prospects and helps become successful adults.

On the other hand, physical ediucation also plays an important role in children development. Regular exercises helps child to strengthen their body, gain fitness and maintain a healthy weight. For instance, schools can organise sports activities, such as football, swimming or running to encourage the children to remain active. Moreover, physical exercises also reduce the risks of health problems associated with sedantary lifestyle. Consequently, physical education can both improve both physical health and social development.

In my opinion, schools should maintain a balance between physical education as well as academic learning. Although students need academic education to exceed in their career, neglecting physical activities may negatively affect their health and well-being.Schools should therefore include regular physcal activities in the timetable without reducing academic learning to an unreasonable extent.

In conclusion, academic sbjects prepare children for higher education and future employment, whereas physical education promotes growth and fitness. I beleive both are essential and should be given appropriate attention in schools.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You address both sides of the discussion and state a clear, consistent opinion: schools should balance academic learning with physical education. The academic paragraph explains how core subjects support thinking, university entry and career prospects, while the physical-education paragraph links exercise with fitness, health and social development. These relevant reasons and examples support the main points well. To strengthen the response further, develop some claims with more precise explanation rather than broad statements—for example, explain how sports activities build social skills, or how schools can protect academic time while scheduling exercise. Overall, the task is fully addressed and your position is clear throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear, effective structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs presenting each view, a paragraph giving your opinion, and a conclusion. The progression is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers understand the discussion. You also use cause-and-effect links, including “Therefore” and “Consequently,” to connect reasons with outcomes. To make cohesion more flexible, avoid relying so heavily on explicit transition phrases and connect some ideas through clearer referencing or explanation. For instance, the final sentence of the physical-education paragraph repeats the health benefit rather than smoothly extending the point about social development.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to discuss education, careers and health, including “thinking abilities,” “future prospects,” “sedentary lifestyle” and “well-being.” This gives the response an appropriate range for the task, and the intended meaning is generally clear. However, several spelling errors and inaccurate word choices reduce precision: “learining,” “ediucation,” “achivement,” “sedantary,” and “beleive” should be corrected. Some phrases are also awkward or repetitive, such as “improve both physical health and social development” after “both” has already been used, and “exceed in their career.” Work on accurate spelling, natural collocations and avoiding repeated wording to make your vocabulary more controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses beginning “While” and “Although,” and a relative clause in “Subjects such as science, mathematics and languages help students develop their thinking abilities which…” The overall meaning remains clear, but some grammatical errors persist. Articles and singular/plural forms need attention: “in child’s development,” “helps child,” and “a greater chances” are not correctly formed. There are also agreement problems in “Regular exercises helps” and “physical education… plays” alongside inconsistent singular/plural references. Punctuation is missing after “well-being.” More careful checking of articles, agreement and sentence boundaries would improve accuracy while preserving your varied structures.
