Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is often argued that physical education is a crucial part of a child's education. Some people say it is important because it keeps students informed about the importance of physical health, however others say it is better to focus on academics as that require more attention to become successful in the life. In my opinion both are equally essential for child growth.

One of the significant advantages of physical education classes is that it consists of practical and theoretical part. Attending practical classes make children fit and healthy by doing various sports activities and learning theoretical portion introduces them to concepts like human anatomy, human science, nutrition, biomechanics, games rules and strategies. Therefore, physical education classes are necessity for child’s holistic development.

On the contrary, people who say that academic subjects are more beneficial to focus on during school believe that this approach would make them successful in life. Subjects like physical education can be learned later in the life however it is very important for a child to clear basics of all other compulsory subjects such as mathematics, computer and science. Every child dream of becoming successful after finishing school and this could be possible if paid full attention to academic subjects to clear any entrance exams to secure a competitive position in any aimed organization.

In my opinion, although it is advantageous if academics is studied well to secure a good job; this benefit is limited if health is not good. Hence, incorporating physical in children school curriculum should be compulsory.

To conclude, for child’s overall growth physical classes are very important. However, academic performance should also be kept in mind to secure good marks and build a successful career.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both views and state a clear position: “both are equally essential,” while your conclusion again recognises the value of academic performance and physical education. Relevant support includes the health benefits of sport and the need to master academic basics for entrance examinations. This meets the task well, but the discussion is not equally developed: the academic argument relies mainly on future success and exams, while the physical-education paragraph gives a broader range of examples. The claim that physical education can be learned later is also introduced but not explored. To strengthen the response further, explain more specifically how schools can balance the two areas and develop each side with comparable reasoning and examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two perspectives, your opinion, and a conclusion. The progression is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the contrary,” “In my opinion,” and “To conclude” help identify the stages of the argument. However, some connections are mechanical or imprecise. “However” in the opening sentence joins contrasting ideas awkwardly, and “Therefore” introduces a conclusion that is not fully established by the preceding list. The opinion paragraph also repeats the case for physical education rather than clearly synthesising both sides. Use more precise links between claims and explanations, and make the final body paragraph show how your balanced position follows from the discussion.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range for the topic, including terms such as “holistic development,” “human anatomy,” “nutrition,” and “competitive position.” These choices help convey relevant ideas, and the meaning is generally clear. There are, however, several inaccurate or unnatural collocations and word forms, including “informed about the importance,” “clear basics,” “Every child dream,” and “incorporating physical.” Some expressions are also vague, such as “successful in the life” and “any aimed organization.” Aim for more natural academic phrasing and precise word combinations—for example, describe students as learning about health, mastering foundational concepts, and pursuing a chosen career. This would make the vocabulary more flexible and accurate while preserving your relevant subject-specific language.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including a contrast clause beginning “although” and a conditional construction about paying attention to academic subjects. Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “that require more attention” has a subject–verb agreement problem, “Attending practical classes make children” has a similar mismatch, and “Every child dream” needs a singular verb. Articles and possessives also need attention in phrases such as “for child’s holistic development” and “during school.” The long sentence beginning “Subjects like physical education…” would benefit from clearer clause boundaries. Review agreement, articles, and sentence punctuation, then check each sentence for a clear subject and verb; this will improve accuracy without limiting your range of structures.
