Student answer (Band 6.0)

The balace between physical education and academic subjects in schools is a topic of significant debate. While some argue that school hours should be solely dedicated to academic achievement, others believe that physical education is vital for a child's development. In my opinion, while acadamics are crucial for future career success, physical education is equally essential for maintaining health and fostering well-rounder individual.

On one hand,Academic education plays an important role that sets the base of a child , child is able to know how to speak , read and write and with progressing years it aids in different kinds of scholarships for them as , that may be national or internatiol as well. The students should know the importance of studies to be an active part of the society . Being qualified is a great blessing one should have atleast basic knowlegde that shows him being educated .

On the flip side , Physical activites do play important role as well, being physically active shows that the person is fit and healthy , the children who are physically active, have sharp minds , they work smart not hard and score well . It also leads to a healthy lifestyle that benefits the child as well as the parents .

In my opinion, there must be some physical activites held in the school with the academic curriculum so that both the physical and academic education is well maintained. This way neither the parents nor the child will be worried about both of the education. It will eventally cause a healthy and well educated society. For instance, by adding one hour of playing, yoga or any kind of sports everyday in the schedule will be a good idea to maintain both physical and academic education.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both views and give a clear opinion: academic learning is important, but physical education should also be included. The response offers relevant reasons, such as education supporting literacy and qualifications, and exercise promoting health and concentration. The practical suggestion of adding an hour of sport or yoga also helps make your position clear. However, the two sides are not developed equally: the academic paragraph mainly lists benefits, while the physical-education paragraph makes broad claims such as active children “work smart not hard” without explaining or illustrating them. To strengthen the response, explain how these benefits affect children’s learning and development, and support at least one point with a specific example. The conclusion could also summarise the balance more directly rather than repeating that both forms of education matter.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two views, and a final paragraph stating your opinion and giving a practical example. Linking phrases such as “On one hand,” “On the flip side,” and “In my opinion” make the progression easy to follow. This meets the lower-band expectation of coherent organisation and shows some flexibility in signposting. However, connections within paragraphs are sometimes mechanical or unclear. For example, the academic paragraph moves from basic literacy to scholarships and then social participation without fully showing how the ideas relate. The final paragraph also repeats the need to maintain both kinds of education. Use clearer links between each reason and its explanation, and ensure punctuation and spacing help readers see where sentences begin and end.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “academic achievement,” “physical education,” “curriculum,” and “healthy lifestyle,” so the main ideas are generally understandable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “significant debate” and “fostering” development. However, noticeable spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “balace,” “acadamics,” “internatiol,” and “well-rounder individual.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise: “sets the base of a child” and “a great blessing one should have” do not communicate your point as clearly as more conventional academic phrasing would. Aim to check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for education and health. More precise vocabulary would help you express the benefits of each subject without relying on broad claims.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast in the opening and a purpose clause in “so that both the physical and academic education is well maintained.” The overall meaning is usually clear, but some grammatical and punctuation errors remain. For example, “a child , child is able” has faulty sentence construction, and “there must be some physical activites held in the school” uses an awkward passive pattern. There are also issues with articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries, as in “physical education is equally essential for maintaining health and fostering well-rounder individual.” Commas are often placed with spaces before them, while several sentences run together after full stops. Review sentence boundaries, article use, and subject–verb agreement, then proofread punctuation.
