Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
You identify both sides of the discussion, stating that physical education and academics are important, and you give relevant reasons for valuing physical activity, such as caring for health and avoiding harmful habits. However, the response does not develop the academic perspective: “it makes you” is unfinished, so the reader never learns what academic study provides. Your opinion is only briefly stated, and there are no examples or developed explanations to support it. The response also does not meet the required minimum length, leaving the task substantially incomplete. To strengthen your answer, explain the benefits of each subject, compare their roles, and conclude with a clear, supported opinion.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5
The response has a basic line of thought: it first supports physical education and then signals that academics are also important with “but.” This gives the reader a limited sense of the intended contrast. However, the ideas are compressed into one long sentence, with no paragraphing or clear progression through the two views and your opinion. The final phrase, “it makes you,” leaves the argument unfinished and disrupts the flow. Linking words are also sparse, so relationships between the points are not fully explained. Organise the answer into separate paragraphs for the two perspectives and your position, and use clear transitions such as “On the other hand” and “In my view.”
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You communicate a few relevant ideas using basic vocabulary, including “physical education,” “academics,” “health,” and “bad habits.” The phrase “devastating effect” also shows an attempt to use more emphatic language. However, the range is narrow, and several choices or forms are inaccurate or awkward, such as “important think” and “both of physical education classes and academics.” Spelling errors in “belive” and “chidren” also reduce accuracy. Because the response is very short, there is little evidence of flexibility or precise vocabulary across the topic. Build a wider set of terms for discussing learning and wellbeing, and check spelling and collocations when revising.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt to connect several ideas in a complex sentence using “because” and “but,” showing some ability to form more than simple statements. However, control is inconsistent: “physical activities helps” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “a child education” lacks the appropriate possessive form. The sentence also contains several clauses joined together without clear punctuation, making the structure difficult to follow. The ending, “it makes you,” is incomplete and does not form a finished grammatical idea. Use shorter, complete sentences alongside carefully controlled complex ones, check agreement and possessives, and punctuate each clause so the relationships between ideas are clear.
