Student answer (Band 6.5)

In this modern society children’s requirement for learning foreign language is a huge debate.some educational systems wants their children to study a foreign language as an extra curricular activity where as some educational institutions argue this is not necessary. In this essay I will explain the potential benefits of foreign language study and provide with relevant examples.

Learning a foreign language is considered as a very big asset because it helps you in one or other way. people with these skills are always prioritized when compare to the other applicants in job interviews. For example people working in corporate worlds with foreign language knowledge are chosen to interact with the clients directly on daily basis which will then give them an opportunity to grow in their career.

Foreign language is an important part of education which makes people familiar of a language which is not native and also makes them feel confident when choose to opt for higher studies or settle in foreign countries. They can easily merge with the locals or make friends by starting conversations. For example canada provides permanent residence opportunities to the people who are good at French language. In 2025 almost 7-8 lakhs people secured permanent residencies by learning French.

Having learning a foreign language is never a harm but can be useful in different aspects.

In my opinion it helps you to survive in a new place which is considered home far away from home.you can feel confident about yourself while trying to fit in.

Every educational institution should make a curriculum where a foreign language to be taught to the students for their future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the benefits of foreign language study and the opinion on its importance in education. The ideas are relevant, such as career advancement and cultural integration. However, the development is somewhat limited. While you provide an example regarding Canada's immigration policy, the explanation of the benefits remains a bit superficial. To improve, try to expand on the cognitive or social benefits of language learning in more detail. Your position is clear throughout the essay, and you provide a consistent argument that foreign language study should be a standard part of the curriculum.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'For example' and 'In my opinion', to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the use of linking words could be more varied to improve the overall progression. Additionally, some transitions between paragraphs are abrupt. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider range of cohesive devices (e.g., 'consequently', 'furthermore', 'in contrast') to create a smoother, more sophisticated flow between your arguments.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'corporate worlds', 'permanent residence', and 'extra curricular activity'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'Having learning a foreign language is never a harm' and 'makes people familiar of a language'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your expression. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and using more precise academic vocabulary rather than relying on simpler, more general terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation, such as missing articles ('a foreign language'), incorrect verb forms ('wants their children'), and run-on sentences or missing spaces after punctuation. For example, 'some educational systems wants' should be 'some educational systems want'. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, pay closer attention to subject-verb agreement, article usage, and basic punctuation rules.
