Student answer (Band 6.5)
In numerous schools, it is mandatory for students to learn one or more international languages, whereas in others, it is not crucial to learn a foreign language. Although learning an international language improve communication skills as well as students learn about various cultures, I do not support the idea of adding a foreign language as an essential subject.
By learning a foreign language, students are enable to improve their communication skills, and vocabulary efficiently, and also78\ provides career options for young people. It is a international language that improves pupils' cognitive development and assist them to work overseas in reputative corporations. For example, learning English language assists to work in multinational companies such as Google, Amazon, and Walmart that offer numerous benefits. Therefore, teaching foreign languages at school offers several advantages to pupils.
No doubt foreign languages offers various benefits, however, it should be optional for pupils to either they prefer to choose to learn an additional language or not based on their interest and future goals. Since not every student intend to study or work abroad, learning a foreign language should remain optional. For instance, there are many trainees who are weak in studies and adding a more subject put burden on them, and they get demotivate to do well in their academic field. Hence, it should a student's choice to learn a foreign language.
To conclude, while adding an additional language into academic curriculum provides a number of benefits, forcing everyone to learn a foreign language may not be beneficial.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the benefits of foreign language study and the student's opinion on whether it should be mandatory. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention cognitive development and career options, these points are not fully extended with detailed explanations or deeper analysis. The example provided regarding multinational companies is relevant, but the overall argument could be strengthened by providing more nuanced reasoning for why it should remain optional, rather than just focusing on the 'burden' on weaker students. To reach a higher band, ensure that each supporting point is elaborated upon with more depth.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Although', 'For example', 'Therefore', and 'To conclude' to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as the transition 'No doubt foreign languages offers various benefits, however'. The flow between sentences is generally clear, but the essay would benefit from a wider variety of linking words and more sophisticated referencing to improve the overall progression of ideas. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'mandatory', 'cognitive development', 'multinational companies', and 'academic curriculum'. There are some instances of word-choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'reputative corporations' (likely meaning 'reputable') and 'get demotivate' (should be 'get demotivated'). Additionally, there are minor grammatical slips affecting word forms, such as 'adding a more subject'. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. Focusing on accurate word forms and more natural collocations will help improve this score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('foreign languages offers', 'it should a student's choice') and incorrect verb forms ('students are enable to', 'students learn about various cultures' instead of 'learning... helps students learn'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some errors in sentence construction. To improve, focus on ensuring subject-verb agreement and correct verb tense usage, as these errors occur frequently enough to prevent the essay from reaching a higher band.
