Student answer (Band 6.0)
There is no doubt that education plays an indispensable role in everyone's life. While a few educational systems opine that a foreign language should be mandatory for children, others are opponents about this education.
One of the major advantages is flexible communication. If youngsters can learn a foreign language at school, then they can easily communicate with native speakers while they go on a trip. Similarly, children get directions easily, and they do not have a challenge. Another one is exploring new activities. To explain it further, youngsters would like to travel with their parents to foreign countries and learn about different cultural backgrounds. This approach not only allows making new friends, but children can also try adventurous activities like scuba diving.
Learning a foreign language should not be a significant part of education because children already have a burden from their academic subjects. In that way, an additional subject can not concentrate full of enthusiasm. Moreover, this activity can increase stress on the mental status of the children. Therefore, children cannot achieve the desired results in their academic performance, puts detrimental effect on the health of children.
In conclusion, although learning a foreign language provides a chance for children to interact with foreign people, it should not be important at school hours. I opine that children would learn a foreign language in their leisure time. This thing does not affect the academic performance of the children.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the benefits of language study and the candidate's opinion on its importance. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The benefits mentioned, such as 'flexible communication' and 'exploring new activities,' are relevant but lack depth. The argument against mandatory language study is clear, but the reasoning regarding 'academic burden' and 'mental status' is slightly repetitive. Furthermore, the response falls short of the 250-word minimum requirement, which negatively impacts the overall development and depth of the argument. To improve, ensure each point is supported with more detailed explanation or concrete examples.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The essay is organised into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. There is a logical progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Similarly,' 'Another one is,' and 'Therefore,' though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or simplistic. The referencing is generally clear, although the connection between the ideas in the third paragraph could be smoother. Overall, the structure is easy to follow, but the range of cohesive devices could be expanded to improve the flow between sentences and paragraphs.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. Phrases like 'flexible communication' and 'mental status' are somewhat unnatural in this context. There is an attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, but it is limited. The student relies on basic word choices, and there are some minor collocation issues, such as 'opponents about this education' and 'puts detrimental effect.' To achieve a higher band score, the student should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and idiomatic collocations related to education and linguistics.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'others are opponents about this education' and 'this activity can increase stress on the mental status of the children.' Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases. While the errors do not significantly impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of complex structures and focusing on grammatical accuracy, particularly with verb-noun collocations, would be beneficial.
